Rape culture is present in America as well (though you are right that a daylight bus rape would not happen here). I am not saying to ignore what is happening in India, I just want to point out that problems abroad should not obfuscate problems at home.

Most rapes go unreported in any country. It is extremely difficult to measure the rate of note reporting a rape, which would be required to know if India had a higher rate of rape including unreported rapes than in America.

India has 1.2 Billion people, and the USA has around 310 Million, something like that. If you assume the rate of rapes that are unreported are around the same in both countries, it would be striking how the absolute number of rapes in the USA would be higher than in India, despite the difference in population. But then again, differences in law enforcement and culture may make victims in India less likely to report their rapes than in the United States.

Wouldn't a country like india with it's massively larger population and it's weaker policing and more predominant subjugation of women almost make it unlikely that they have less rape than a smaller nation with slightly better policing and a slightly better ideology pertaining to women?
