Didn't see many film as a kid but treasure planet was definitely one of my favourites back then, I still think the whole environment the film creates (the crescent moon being a giant spaceport and space faring sailing ships) just felt so oddly believable. Especially to a young kid who hadn't seen any other scifi films at the time.
Treasure planet is still one of my favourite Disney films, gonna have to watch this later tho
TL:DW; Vid Uploader loves the movie and thinks Disney purposefully had it fail, which is their mistake.
Goddamn I love Treasure Planet but watching it recently it really falls off, it could've been a true classic like the rest.
I first thought this was gonna be a review about how the uploader doesn't like Treasure Planet and I was getting a torch and pitchfork ready
I mean it's not the first time I've heard someone accuse Disney of sabotaging its traditional animation studio around that time period.
Seen this movie as a kid, and still love it now. It's really cool to see how a bunch of the animation was done, but I never realized that it was one of Disney's last movies with a lot of hand-drawn stuff.
I don't think I will ever forgive Disney for killing their traditional hand-drawn animation. Don't get me wrong - their latest 3D/CG movies are great but nothing beats the magic of classic animation.
TL:DW; Vid Uploader loves the movie and thinks Disney purposefully had it fail, which is their mistake.
There was some incompetence on display even if you don't think it was intentional, such as blatantly spoiling major plot points in the advertising and having it go up against the first Harry potter and one of their own Xmas films during the Christmas season.
treasure planet still features probably the most genuine relationship between two of its main characters of any disney movie i've seen
Is the video pitch shifted? Jim sounds a lot squeakier than i remember
Treasure Planet and Titan AE have to be some of my all time favorite animated films.
Gosh I absolutely adore the visuals and world of this movie. I absolute do NOT adore the whiny Anakin Skywalker-alike main character. I really really think the story didn't work out well, to be honest. I would have preferred a much more swashbuckling adventure.

Frankly he held it together better than most of us would have at the same age.
Am I the only one who feels the 3d stuff wasn't blended very well like this guys says? I love treasure planet as a movie, but I think Tarzan does a much better job at seamlessly blending 3d and 2d portions of the movie.
so... anakin skywalker?
Not really. Anakin's problem was that he had basically everything going for him and plenty of people to look after him and ALL of them saw his to coming, just none of them did anything about it. Anakin's is more "my various dads didn't hug me enough and I was forcefully turned into a war machine." Besides, Anakin was WAAAAY more whiny that Jim in general. [Editline]dkskfms[/editline] I can see the comparison but they're two very different characters that whine for very different reasons.

The ONLY thing about this movie that makes me roll my eyes is when B.E.N. shows up. If they had cut the character entirely or even just gone more subtle with his insanity, the film would be much better for it.

I don't know why everything about this movie was forgotten, but I do remember this one, and it was a very well done and touching moment that got me 8 year old me teary eyed.

Treasure planet is a shining gem, and one of the few (imo) movies that actually sound better in the Norwegian dub than original English. (just a personal preference of course) Any other Norwegians here feel the same? The "I'm still here" song is especially amazing dubbed

In general I think dubbing is the spawn of satan, but for that particular film, I prefer it in Danish - probably some nostalgia to that, but hey.

Personally I think that the Norwegian dub of Ice age, Treasure Planet and the emperors new groove lends itself better to the Norwegian voice actors. Just listen to that deep-timbre voice of silver, and the calm deep voice of Tarjei Van Ravens
it has the best chase scene in animation history
Looks like the store brand version of Cuphead, Crackhead
Really underrated film, fondly remember most of Jim & Silver's father-son-like relationship scenes. There was a pretty simple but decent naval combat strategy game too I used to play that serves as a sequel to the film as well.

Especially a kids movie adapted from a 120-year old novel?
