Another man and a local woman were also among those attacked in the densely-populated slum village which is home to about 3,000 people. Terrified villagers climbed on to roofs to escape and watched on in horror as forest guards tried to fight off the animal with their weapons. Wildlife officers tried unsuccessfully several times to tranquillise the feline during the frenzied attack. And just as forest officials thought the attack was over when the animal took refuge in a bush, it quickly re-emerged again and attacked three policemen. A wildlife official said the big cat was startled by the hundreds of curious and frightened onlookers. Kanchan Banerjee, a forest ranger from the Sukna Wildlife Range, told local newspaper The Hindu: "With the villagers trying to chase it, it tried to flee and injured five villagers in the process." He said one forest guard was critically injured while others were not so seriously hurt. The leopard was eventually shot and tied up before being taken to a nearby veterinary clinic where it later died. It is not the first time a leopard has wreaked havoc in India with local media reporting in January how a feline went on an eight-hour rampage, racing through the streets and into people's homes and attacking at least six people in the 60,000-resident northern city of Karad. After two gunshots fired in the air by police failed to scare off the animal, the leopard was killed by two shots at close-range from a police officer's revolver. Indian farmers also often report deaths of cattle and other animals as a result of wild leopards.
Source: http://uk.news.yahoo.com/leopard-mauls-six-people-attack-india-105809834.html
The poor thing is dead
you had to kill the animal even though it was your fault for making deranged in the first place....i just "love" how everyone in the world looks at animals as something we can just go ahead and kill or what animals we keep.i mean really.
Apparently, the use of bullets instead of tranquilizer darts is considered more effective in India. Good thinking, indian police...

Yeah, I've read that part. And? Couldn't they have gone with the "shitload of tranquiliser darts + net" combo? They gunned it down because they just didn't know how to deal with the damn thing. Of course it's a lot easier to shoot him instead of capturing him.

A leopard wandered into a poor village and started attacking people you're damn right they are going to shoot it. What you want them to do, pet the kitty?
Yeah, I've read that part. And? Couldn't they have gone with the "shitload of tranquiliser darts + net" combo? Priorities!

Weird. I read an article like a couple minutes ago that said it mauled like 10-20 people. Can't find that article any more. But yeah sucks they had to kill it but i'd have done the same thing. Animal is hurting people, you TRY to tranquilize it. But people are much higher than any animal on my list of things to keep alive.
[editline]20th July 2011[/editline] i saw an leopard at the zoo once it looked like this

And that's why you're not in charge
And that's why you're not in charge
You're probably right. :/

Where I live, near the foothills in Southern California, it's not unusual for mountain lions to be spotted running across people's backyards, or bears hanging out in backyard pools. Coyotes have been spotted miles into the cities. Even so, I can't imagine what it's like to live in a town where wild animals rampage like that. One second you're going about your business, the next you have a frickin' leopard on your back.
Sweet mercy it went out of control. Good thing it was killed. When an animal that dangerous goes into a frenzy like that, either it goes or you do. I feel bad for those who were attacked. Thank god it wasn't an Elephant or something larger.
It's a shame the thing is dead, but the life of 6 humans is more important than that of a Leopard. Anybody who thinks that a Leopard in a blood-crazed frenzy is worth more than the lives of 6 innocent people is not a good person.
I feel more bad for the people.
It's a shame the thing is dead, but the life of 6 humans is more important than that of a Leopard.
It's not even that. If some random Indian guy was going on a rampage, injured six people (including one critical injury) and was clearly going to hurt more, and the police's attempts at capturing him failed, they'd shoot the bastard too.
Excuse me?
Obvious sarcasm. QQ=He was crying over the stupid leopard and so I sarcastically made a point about him not caring about human life.
Here kitty kitty kitty... Anyway, stupid cat. Deserved to be shot.
i don't imagine there's going to be much larger than an elephant
No shit.
I am going to train an army of leopards to invade India.
