Damnit Fluffy, can you just SHUT UP? - General

Now to start my little rant here off plain and simple, I am going to say one thing. [B] My dog needs to learn to shut up. [/b] One problem is the fact that he keeps everybody in the house up at night. I'm laying in my damn bed trying to get some beauty sleep and this little shit is barking because he saw a cat. Not only will he sit there and bark at it, but he'll also CONTINUE to bark even after the cat's gone. I honestly think he does it to annoy me, and everyone else. He also especially does it when a visitor comes over that he isn't familiar with. Like the cable guy. The person walks in with a dog all up on their leg going completely berzerk. I mean, his little high pitched bark is so loud, it wakes up all the neighborhood dogs and causes THEM to start barking insanely. Now my dog is extremely adorable, but sometimes he needs to stop being annoying and listen when I tell him to shut up. I mean, I've tried everything from throwing [soft] things at him and bribing him with a treat, but for some reason it just doesn't stop him. He just keeps going on and on and on. Don't get me wrong, my dog usually lays around and does nothing all day. He's actually really calm and collected when nothing is going on. He's also playful as well. It's just that it's so annoying to hear him bark at ALL the wrong times. Anyway, whether you enjoyed this badly made rant or not, I think the following may amuse you. Maybe a neighbor's dog? -Edit- He doesn't have a sweater on as of right now. He only wears it when his hair's cut AND it's winter time. I also dearly love my dog. I am just pointing out one of his minor flaws in a more exaggerated fashion.

If it's a puppy, it will grow out of it. If its a full grown dog, then train it somehow.

Man, why would you yell at that cute little guy? He's still young probably. Give him a few months and just properly train him. My dog (a Wheaten Terrier) has pretty much the same attitude as your dog, but she greets them with... extra love (a.k.a peeing on them. We still haven't figured out why, but the best options are ignore her until she stops or go outside and pet her until she's done). As of right now, there's no coat on the dog. The only time he ever wears that is when we cut his hair during the winter. And like I said before he's usually calm, but barks at the wrong times. He's four years old by the way

First off get rid of that shit sweater. Then it'll stop bitching.

What does he bark at? If it's sounds, then trigger the sound he barks at, and he will bark. Then do nothing, until he stops barking. Do it again, and he will bark again, and do nothing again until he stops. Keep doing this until he learns there is nothing to bark at. If it's someone walking in the door, walk in the door and stand there until he stops barking and repeat. Most of these things will work for any dog, just use the same principle over general situations. For the barking at a cat thing, Swat the dog on the back end, lightly with two fingers, but with enough force for it to sting a little, every time he barks at the cat. If he starts again, swat him again. Only, only, only, do this while the dog is barking and the cat is in front of it. The dog must understand why it is being swatted. You can do this for other incompetent areas of learning with the dog.

I spoiled my own dog, he had the behavior like your dog until he died at the age of 9. Honestly, i prefer dogs like that. It makes em' more emotional and fun.

Sometimes it won't bark, but instead will drag it's food bowl across their driveway for about 3 hours before it stops (they have a gravel driveway, so it's this really loud plasticy scraping sound).

You CAN teach them not to bark. Our Yorkie doesn't bark anymore. At all.
