Labour MP Jim Murphy has suspended his Scotland-wide tour ahead of the independence referendum, citing "co-ordinated abuse" from "Yes" voters.
Mr Murphy, who was hit by eggs on Thursday, claimed the Yes Scotland campaign was organising "mobs" to intimidate him and undecided voters.
The campaign for independence condemned "all forms" of abusive behaviour.
Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond and Prime Minister David Cameron also spoke out against the egg attack.
Mr Murphy, the shadow international development secretary, has been on his 100 Towns in 100 Days tour, on behalf of the Better Together campaign to keep the Union.
After being egged while speaking in Kirkcaldy, Fife, the Scottish MP said he was suspending the tour for 72 hours to take police advice on the safety of continuing.
In the meantime, he also called on "Yes" campaigners to "call off their attack mobs".
Here's the video Better Together released

This referendum is going to be surrounded by controversy and speculation for years to come, irrespective of the decision made.

Like Quebec's last referendum, there's going to be a lot of shit happening.
Honestly this is getting out of hand.
My towns fine but if I go to the next town over I can't walk down the street without someone wanting to tell me how to vote.
Even going on Facebook these days is terrible, everyones being so vicious about it. The Yes campaign seems to be the worst, they're so loud about wanting this whereas most No voters stay much quieter about the whole thing.
Either way half the country isn't going to be happy and it's going to be terrible.
I'm glad we moved to Canada
Scotland sounds like a mess right now
Hah, funny thing is there is some interesting photos going around of the person who threw an egg at Mr Murphy. The most interesting is the one that shows he has one of those earpieces that bodyguards tend to use.
I also like how he's the only politician we've had to react so drastically to having eggs thrown at him (Not an uncommon occurrence)

No voters are quiet because if we even offer our opinion on anything we get called everything under the sun.

That guy wasn't the only one throwing eggs, he's probably acting so upset because Nationalists have been coming out to every one of his events and heckling him for weeks.

Yep, I heard, but that's politics, they're allowed to it, because it is a form of protest.
The problem was when the eggs got involved, which I don't condone. And from what I understand from people who were at the rally, it was only one egg, from the guy I mentioned.

I watched the video and noticed multiple eggs being thrown moments before the guy in question came up behind and smashed it into Jims back.
The form of 'protest' that these people have been carrying out is shouting at Jim calling him a collaborator and traitor and stopping people from asking him questions (I recall from the video one guy just shouted at the top of his voice that Jim was "A fucking scumbag"), it may be legal but it is a disgusting abuse of democracy and I would think any sane undecided voter immediately vote no so not to be associated with them.
After the democrating referendum Scotland will succesfully leave UK and join Russian Federation.
God bless.

Yeah, I heard about them from the one at Stonehaven. A Yes supporter was getting annoyed at the hecklers because they wanted to let him speak, because there were a couple of old guys who were trying to challenge him reasonably - which they couldn't do if he wasn't allowed to speak.
And I guess the guy who told me it was one egg was just referring to it only being one that he got hit by (That the guy with the earpiece slapped onto him).

As an Englishman its terrifying enough the thought of having to wake up to a country after the referendum where its been torn apart let alone wakeup in a future state with a load of bitter and divided people.
No voters are quiet because if we even offer our opinion on anything we get called everything under the sun.
Definitely, it's really annoying.
I saw someone post a status for no reason the other day telling no voters to 'get and education'.
both sides are loaded with fuck tards like this though. A shop promoting the Yes vote had shit smeared on the windows.

Are you surprised a national party is getting this kind of movement behind their backs?

love how some people across oceans form opinions on the state of a country based on articles on facepunch

It's definitely not.

If by sane you mean completely fucking retarded, whoever votes no because of this frankly shouldn't have a vote because guess what, one dick egging another dick isn't a sound basis for a political decision.

If someone is undecided at this point it's likely seeing a bunch of Yes people acting like fools would be enough to make up their mind. If you are balancing the facts about both campaigns and are still making up your mind, seeing this will probably push you to one side at the end of the day and that is why it is laughable that these people are coming out to every event Jim has in these towns and heckling him, they are doing his job for him.

Probably.
You keep using terms like probably, If you're balancing the facts about anything one arsehole being an arsehole isn't gonna sway you, you're probably gonna do the intelligent thing of writing them off as nothing but an arsehole.
The guys not in a position of power he was literally just some wanker on the street and he'll be pulled up for it in the next week if he hasn't been already.
both sides have their fair share of cunts, this really shouldn't affect anyones decision.
Probably.

I use the term probably because I can only speak for myself and as for myself I am not at all an undecided voter so it is hard to precisely say for certain how I would act.
This thread isn't just about the egg guy, if you watch the Better Together video then you will see this heckling has been common occurrence across Scotland for Yes campaigners, these people are literally all over the place (they hugely out number the vocal No people on places like facebook and twitter as well), if you are in a polling booth on the day and still undecided when you think about the mental image of people voting Yes are people that shout "fucking scumbag" on the highstreet and harasses members of the public then you are going to cross that 'No' box.
The point being that the heckling that the Yes'ers are carrying out is completely against their aims and it's laughable that Salmond just says that it's their right instead of chastising the behaviour.

uh, he did chastise it though? he said they have every right for peaceful protest (which everyone does) but shouldn't throw eggs at people.
uh, he did chastise it though? he said they have every right for peaceful protest (which everyone does) but shouldn't throw eggs at people.
I'm talking about the heckling in general shown in the Better Together video.
I'm talking about the heckling in general shown in the Better Together video.
even david cameron says heckling is fine.
what do you expect anyway when you try to persuade people in busy city centres where there are no ground rules for debating
[editline]30th August 2014[/editline]
if all this had happened in the middle of some official debate then it'd be much worse, but its just a guy chanting his opinions in the street
even david cameron says heckling is fine.

These people aren't just people in the City Center passing by, they are organised groups that purposefully come in to heckle and stop any debate happening.
to be fair i've watched some of that guys stuff from a while back and you can't really say what he does is a debate. some woman tried to ask him a question and he just started shouting over her and wouldn't let her speak.
i'm pretty sure there was a rumour that he brought crowds of the same people along with him to different towns as well (though im not sure if thats 100% true i cant be arsed looking)
No voters are quiet because if we even offer our opinion on anything we get called everything under the sun.
The same happens to yes supporters from no supporters... examples from a discussion I was involved in the other night:
Charles Barnes Keep going Jim,these nazis a scumbags
Ross Gordon Nationalism is such a waste of potential. The people who support it are a waste of oxygen.
(In response to someone saying the man who threw an egg could just be out to cause trouble and may not be a supporter of either yes or no)
Richard Dingwall Grow up son. Honestly!
Matt Drennan Phantom egg man stalks Dundee wow ! You are as disgraceful as the ned who did this! Grow up and go think about your own stupidity
Bobby Mclaughlin The yes camp are vicious, bullying animals, if u don't agree then be prepared to get abused either verbally or physically
Ainsley Mitchell If this is the desperate attitude of moronic Nationalists, Heaven Help Us should they ever have the satisfaction of supposedly winning the referendum!!
Chris Mayhead If these bigots win ' who will they turn to next perhaps our ethnic minority population.
Steve Lightbody Kevin Wilson , pure yesser Twat
Peter Mathieson Scum that's the kind of fairer scotland they want.
Stephen Swallow David Morris
Nice one Braveheart!
Michael MacDonald Yes supporters = thugs
Sandy Kilgour Nats are fekkin scum and makes me ashamed to be Scottish!!!
Del Rashid THE IDIOT'S GUIDE TO TAX FOR YES VOTERS.
Allan Stevens If your struggling , go back to the yes pages and leave the grown ups conversation .
Hugh Harkins Jon Dean Cosier fascist moron.
To the point where people didn't want to read any more
Christine Bethune Leaving this page. Not because I disagree with Better Together, but because of all the disrespect.
And it continues...
Ann Lipman Nicola = brainwashed
Georgina Sparrow Ann surely you have to have a brain for it to be washed. Not sure Jammie qualifies.
Ann Lipman Ok Jim how about mindless or just plain stupid will that do??
Jamie Torrance Johnny so no voters are spineless? Call me spineless to my face and you'd get a swift boot to the baws
Andrew Mansell And people still vote for these b1goted thugs
I've heard rumours Jim Murphy was basically looking for this kind of attention. I'd love to see proof of it though - e.g. him being aggressive/dismissive on video.

Please tell me how Scotland is a mess.

The way people who campaign for voting yes act is enough to make me not want to associate with them.
