This is my very first crack at trying to draw and shade something of actual decency at high resolution with my bamboo tablet (getting a cintiq soon). It isn't fully done, some color is bleeding out in some spots behind the edge lines that I will fix soon. there also is a noticeable horizontal color change around eye level that is an ocean line to be later added. I am here for some needed critique and suggestions to make it better (going for a badass evil look) :D P.S. I need help with a technique to drawing some simple suction cups (I dont want them to be to detailed(I dont trust myself to do a good job lol)) http://i.imgur.com/PIND4.jpg ocean-line. I plan on having some refraction of the ocean and calm waves hopefully http://i.imgur.com/MqDoq.jpg
If you're deep enough underwater to just be seeing black, then you're not going to see a non-luminescent octopus. The whole thing is too murky and hard to read. The eyes could do with not being cartoon eyes imo as well Also getting a cintiq is a bit excessive for someone who (no offensive) seems to be lacking in fundamental knowledge? I.E it won't magically improve your artwork [editline]1st July 2012[/editline] Oh and there's really no need to work as large as you did either

I appreciate your advice on the eyes, I will try to make them fit in better with the scene :P I also am going to try and add a large moon setting behind to be a light source. The reason I made it such a large scale is that a friend of mine(he's a programmer) that I plan on working with wants to make a game out of my concept and he would love this for a poster. So think of this more as a concept art poster, haha. As for the tablet I am 16 and am very interested in getting better at digital art and design. I am a good artist on paper but when it comes to drawing on a bamboo I feel a large disconnection between my hand and what I am drawing. I realize that a Cintiq 12wx is not needed to make me a better artist but I hope it to make drawing a more enjoyable experience; besides like I said, I am 16... I have no expenses and I have money (I plan on investing and saving to). As for my skill I plan on joining a volunteer organization this fall to help them out with some graphic designing. I also will be taking an art class at school this junior year. Can anyone give me a very brief description of the the way you make a scene because I am pretty sure i'm doing everything backwards lol. Ex: draw outline- add basic color- clean up- basic shading- background outline- foreground... ocean-line [ulr]http://i.imgur.com/MqDoq.jpg
Looks like 3D model from the 90's.
