Aw shit, this is right up my alley. I'm hopeful that Nick Cage will someday make a second Lord of War.

I won't lie when I say that gun-running (or, hell, smuggling in general) is one of those things that I've always been enamored with in fiction.
Gunrunning is just an amazing subject. I feel that to many people pay attention to FBI/CIA gunrunners, but personally I'd like to see more stories based around people who build firearms in the bush, and sell them. Another good story which should be really made into a film is the story of PA Luty. Basically, the guy was a major gunrights activist, but also wanted to show the flaws in overly restrictive gun control. He made a guide detailing how to build a machine pistol from scrap metal, and plumbing parts, and how to build the ammo for said gun with simple matchsticks and homemade gunpowder. Due to him wanting to prove the ineffectiveness of the British gun control laws, he decided to goto the local police department, and handed over the guide and built machine pistol. He also forwarded the guide to some of his mates, which will come up later. Well, the Police were not exactly to thrilled with the guy building an actual gun, with working ammo, and arrested him. At this time, PA Luty was suffering from cancer and during his incarceration he had several instances of delayed treatment for his problems. What's worse is that his friends whom he gave the guide to had also been arrested, one of which was meant to go for an open heart surgery. This story goes back and forth, with Luty eventually being released, but now having somewhat of a vendetta for how he perceived his countrymen betraying him. He ended up releasing the guide online to a larger audience, and created a few more guides with specifics for manufacturing different types of ammo, and even helped spread out a guide on how to make the Caselman Air-Powered Machinegun. By the time Luty succumbed to his illness, his firearms and guides became widespread around the internet, and are now found on pretty much every criminal/cartel scene, or some variant of it. Just some examples from Australia: [t]http://i.imgur.com/UKS1XXq.jpg[/t][t]http://i.imgur.com/JpCvZ9B.jpg[/t] It goes without saying, that this man kick-started the DIY gun movement that we are seeing with 3d printed guns and scrapmetal garage guns. All I can say is this: Rest in Peace, Philip. You were a crazy motherfucker with a dream.
Weird casting, wouldn't have put Tom Cruise and Domhnall Gleeson in those roles, but I'm interested to see how it plays out.
When they announced the Top Gun sequel I expected something different.
