There is a special event window that lasts only for about 30 minutes and there are still thousands of people in line to get into the festival and they started the event without them (meaning they will miss out on the special and exclusive event while they paid money to attend the event and traveled from wide and afar). Some people report that they can't even play inside because of internet and server issues. Overall players of Pokemon Go are treated like shit and even after 1 year after release this game feels like pre alpha version. People are mad but they are manchildren who can't stop playing the game.
Bonus video! For such a massive audience, it's extremely bad for game design (and public safety!) to have an event within a small time period like that. I'm hoping nobody decides to get physical over a video game.

I'm still surprised so many people play Pokemon Go even after the constant cluelessness Niantic shows toward updates/community. I thought it would die out rather quickly because it took them like a year just to add new pokemon

Kinda wished that Pokemon Go was properly supervised by Nintendo or Game Freak, i would guess that both companies would never initially wanted to ship it in its current state.
I always thought this game could have been such a cool example of augmented reality. Like imagine if pokemon that showed up could only be caught by the first person that caught them. That would make things a lot more competitive. I remember last year when you could use an app to pinpoint where pokemon were spawning I ran a solid 10 minutes to try to catch a Pikachu, and then it ran away. There were like 5 other groups of people in cars and bikes trying to catch it too. That was way more interesting than walking around blindly hoping to trigger a spawn after they removed footprints and banned those apps.
also a lot more violent such a shame that all the potential went to waste because niantic is garbage
God remember when people seemed to think this game would revolutionise and revitalise human interaction? Good times
it was fun while it lasted. the social aspect that is.
What got me was the fact that all you could do was catch pokemon, you couldn't fight wild pokemon or trainers unless it was a gym, there's only so many times you can catch a pokemon before you want to train yours to be stronger that isn't sacrificing the same kind of pokemon. That and I have social anxiety so the thought of someone confronting me for fighting for their gym terrifies me :v:

I've actually been following this most of this afternoon. Here's a bit of a rundown incase y'all are interested: As well as some clips from Twitch: Eloquent feedback from the crowd Camera crews unintentionally showing off nearly a full minute of connection issues "We can't play" chant Someone throws a water bottle at one of the announcers More technical issues It's such a massive shitshow but it's so cathartic knowing how badly Niantic fucked Pokemon GO over
Good to know Crowbcat has plenty of fresh content for his next video.
Really was a fun experience for like 2 months. After that, the game just felt like a cash grab, and it showed in Niantic's complete incompetence to preform maintenance on their game. It's a real shame, this could have seriously been the next big thing, but it was given to the hands of complete scam artists.
To make things worse, Niantic is issuing full refunds for the event and including $100 worth of Pokecoins.

Nintendo chose the -worst- fucking partner for this. Niantic are so unbelievably incompetent

When I mean maintenance I'm mainly talking about like when they took away the footstep indicator just because they couldn't be bothered to fix it, and then not being able to give a clear and concise reason as to why. It's exactly what they are doing at this event, just sweeping stuff under the rug and pretending they can't hear the hordes of angry players.

While Grant park gets this special event, the rest of the world got to help out by having a double pokemon spawn rate event. Now this was a huge problem, because for Australia(eastern coast) the time to help out was 1:30am to 10am(which has now just ended). We're in one of our coldest winters and they thought the best time to help out was when it would be at its coldest.
Why are people still putting up with this garbage game? This is a lot of effort to go through for a shitty mobage.

This is Fyre Fest for the common man

While all this was going on, I was stuck indoors because it's summer and there's a heat wave going on with 100F+ degree weather. It's almost an hour and a half past the end time (8:20 pm) and the heat index is still over 100.
