Anyone have any similar experiences with Verizon or other mobile phone providers?

I was just on the phone with Verizon for an hour and a half. Why?
Last year, my wife needed a new phone because her old one had a cracked screen. We were not eligible for an upgrade at the time, but Verizon told us that if we signed a new 2-year contract, they'd give us the 2-year contract price for the phone and they'd only charge us $10 per month for the additional line that we would not be using. I agreed to this because she needed the new phone.
A few months later, I changed my plan to the Share Everything plan, so that we got unlimited calls and texts and the bill went down $10 per month. Unfortunately they failed to tell me that that extra line we were not using would now be $20 per month instead of $10.
Fast forward to April of this year. My wife wanted to switch lines so that her phone would be attached to that other, unused line because she was studying for medical boards and didn't want to be bothered. I called Verizon and they made the change, specifying that no additional costs would be applied. However, when they made the change, they failed to change the now unused line to the $20 per month, so they were charging me for having 3 mobile devices, which was a $20 difference (mobile line is $40 per month, as opposed to the unused line being $20). So for the past 5 months, I've been paying $20 extra per month because they failed to make the switch. I just figured this out today, so I called them.
Basically they said that because I actually paid the bills for the past 5 months, I was in agreement to the charges, even though they failed to tell me the price had changed. My contention was that I never would've agreed to switch lines if they had done their due diligence and told me that the price was going to change. So they agreed to accept partial responsibility and refunded me half of the overage I paid ($50) in addition to changing the unused line back to the original $20 per month cost.
I've never had a problem with Verizon before this and I've been with them for the past 12 years, but I'm starting to consider switching phone services. Anyone have any positive experiences with mobile phone services that I should consider switching to?
I have had verizon for 7 years now. Despite the fact that their prices are obnoxiously high, cell service is very good. I would recommend a 4G phone.

This is the first time you've had a problem with them in over a decade, they helped you rectify the issue and you're considering switching just because of one incident?
This incident really bothered me considering I've been a loyal customer for 10 years and they're nickle and diming me.
they are correct
paying a certain price for services automatically implies you're ok with the price
in all honesty, you're lucky they gave you half back
they aren't nickel and diming you
Actually, they admitted fault, which is why they're reimbursing me.
They are responsible for informing the customer of any policy and pricing changes as they occur. I made a request and they were not completely transparent with the pricing change.
Why are you considering switching service providers if they admitted fault and are reimbursing you.
We've had verizon for many years now between my mom, sister and I. About a year ago my sister went overseas to study abroad in Rome, and so my mother decided to upgrade her plan to international for like $10 more a month, because it was just gonna be three months.
So three months later, she came back, my mother called Verizon up and cancelled the international plan because we obviously didn't need it anymore. It wasn't till 11 months after that that we started trying to go through our verizon services and figure out what we didn't need anymore to save some money, and discovered they had still been charging us $10 a month for the international plan that we hadn't used once since, since then, so $110 dollars total for nothing. We were on the phone with them for two hours slowly going up the chain until some asshole wouldn't connect us any higher and basically told us to fuck off we don't care and we aren't refunding you, your fault for not noticing it on the bill, even though we clearly cancelled it and it was on their records that we had infact done so.
It's really fucking bullshit and I'm so pissed off that they have such a big oligopoly on the cell market and that everyone is forced to eat out of their fucking hands.

Shame there's like almost zero coverage in my area. Local city and interstates. That's it.
don't switch to sprint. terrible service.
Verizon is like the only good one.
Sprint has dead spots, which is more annoying then just not having service
AT&T is a fucking Joke
Who the fuck cares about T-Mobile
you can't get a good phone on Alltel
I heard Sprint was ok, but now I'm starting to hear not so good things about it.
A friend of mine has AT&T and literally drops at least 5 calls per day.
Another friend has Metro PCS and says his reception is great.
verizon costs a lot but their coverage...mmm
verizon is really one of the best imo, i dont think you should switch just from this one incident.
sprint has terrible coverage and overall just bad. never going back to it. i always have 4G on my phone while my friend will have 3G 95% of the time and he has sprint.
t-mobile seems expensive, dunno about at&t
I've had t-mobile forever.
Infact, I got them because t-mobile was the only carrier that had reception in my area. I get 4G everywhere, and if you get a LTE phone, their coverage is getting better in the bigger cities.
With their new pricing, it is a better deal than actually have a 2 year contract and a subsidized phone.
$60 for unlimited talk and text with 500 mb of data, and if you exceed that, they only limit the speed, they don't completely disconnect you.
For $80, you get unlimited everything. I think that is a pretty good deal (among the large cell phone companies).
T-Mobile is a hit or a miss depending on where you are, I could be outside my house and have 4G then go down the street and have an EDGE connection. Verizon is nice besides price but you kinda get what you pay for.

The nice thing about Verizon is that odds are, you have a usable signal no matter where you are. Bad thing is they bend you over for it and sometimes forget the lube.
Wouldn't mind T-Mobile or any of their MVNO's, but the coverage is near unusable here. My local town is on the edge of a roaming area before completely losing coverage period. AT&T and Verizon seem to be my only choices, and I considered going prepaid with AT&T.

T-Mobile is a joke in my area, and sprint had really weird deadspots, we used to have sprint a few years ago, then we moved in to an apartment, and the phones worked everywhere BUT when we were in our apartment.
at least you don't have sprint

I hate this excuse. I worked for AT&T and I can't tell you the countless times people would use this poor excuse to try and justify their problem. Being a customer for X amount of years does not grant you free things or money off bills ect. You own a car for what 10 years don't see Ford or Dodge ect giving you a free year of gas just for being a loyal customer. Being a loyal customer doesn't mean that you're gonna receive money or free things. They're a business like everyone else.
I wasn't expecting free things, sir. I was expecting them to honor the original agreement and refund my money.
AT&T is okay, depending on where you live. It sucks for me, if I'm not within a mile of the city my service never goes above three bars, but I've been living with it because it's through work. If you live out in the country then fuck AT&T, it's horrible anywhere but right in a city.
AT&T is ok in my area. I always get 4G LTE at my school.

holy shit they reimbursed why are you still whining about it

Bro, who's whining? I was telling my story. Fuck.
Carriers are equally horrible so I pay the least I can by using Virgin Mobile (Sprint). Coverage is poor (sliver of a bar in my house) and mobile internet is generally unusable. AT&T was roughly as bad (one bar in my house - might be the roof), but their mobile internet was a bit better. This is all area dependent of course, on the plus side pre-paid plans don't have taxes.
