The software maker launched the latest browser you loved to hate video today, showcasing the latest part of its attempts to keep Internet Explorer relevant. The video sets the stage for a comment war with an anonymous IE hater who leaves comments on articles, replies to Facebook posts, and sends tweets to the IE Twitter account. It's a comical account of real life comments that can be found across various sites, including "IE sucks" and "IE is only good for downloading other browsers." Described as a comeback, the campaign shows that Microsoft "gets it" and is clearly aware of the feedback around Internet Explorer. The company has won praise for its recent attempts to adhere to web standards and push out solid releases for Windows 7 and Windows 8, but can't shake off the perception and memories of Internet Explorer 6 — a product it's trying hard to kill off. The approach is fresh, but Microsoft faces some significant challenges against an increasingly popular Chrome browser and offerings from Mozilla and Apple, all of which offer varied and additional features. Internet Explorer is hovering at around 50 percent market share worldwide, so it's certainly time that Microsoft attempted to reverse the bleed it has experienced over the past several years. But, will it work?
http://www.theverge.com/2012/11/29/3705902/microsoft-internet-explorer-commenters-ad I really like how they got the depiction of the guy well, the LED keyboard just nailed it so well damn
IE SUCKS!!!
IE SUCKS!!!
4evUR! I love how it ends on a note which kind of says "Well yeah it's still kinda bad, just less bad than before"
Ha, the "Progress." made me laugh out loud.
that was pretty good "ie sucks ... less" should be their new ad campaign
HEY I HAVE THAT KEYBOARD AND IT SUCKS.
i like how comments are disabled in the video.
I was afraid they were going to do some stupid ending with the guy renouncing his ways of hating IE, and start using it himself, but they handled it pretty well, clever advertising.
I actually liked it!
You shouldn't need an ad for something that comes preinstalled. Jussayin.
I like how they made fun of people who get angry about Comic Sans by putting the Karaoke trophy in Comic Sans :v:
that was pretty good "ie sucks ... less" should be their new ad campaign
It's actually on par with other 'good' browsers now.
You shouldn't need an ad for something that comes preinstalled. Jussayin.
Didn't a court rule that windows can't come with pre-installed Iexplorer?
Didn't a court rule that windows can't come with pre-installed Iexplorer?
That only applies in the EU as I recall.
Didn't a court rule that windows can't come with pre-installed Iexplorer?
You get an option when you install your OS or whatever to install either IE, Firefox or Chrome, as I remember. In the EU, anyway.
IE is only good for downloading other browsers.
IE sucks... less. How is that a marketing campaign? So they admit it sucks, just a little bit less than it did before? Yeah, I'm going to stick with what I have, thanks.
IE sucks... less. How is that a marketing campaign? So they admit it sucks, just a little bit less than it did before? Yeah, I'm going to stick with what I have, thanks.
The point is to try and stop the circlejerk of "IE SUCKS BECAUSE IE SUCKS" and to try and get people to actually think about the browser war in terms of speed and reliability again
IE sucks... less. How is that a marketing campaign? So they admit it sucks, just a little bit less than it did before? Yeah, I'm going to stick with what I have, thanks.
I believe it's because they know that IE has a reputation for being a rather bad browser, so rather than coming out and saying, "THIS IS BRAND NEW AND AMAZING WITH ALL THESE COOL FEATURES", they're basically saying, "Yeah we screwed up with earlier versions, but we've fixed problems and made it a little better." Which imo is much better than just parading it around as the best thing since the internet.
The point is to try and stop the circlejerk of "IE SUCKS BECAUSE IE SUCKS" and to try and get people to actually think about the browser war in terms of speed and reliability again
IE has no addon market/database Automatic fail.
You get an option when you install your OS or whatever to install either IE, Firefox or Chrome, as I remember. In the EU, anyway.
Must be an EU only thing. It comes pre-installed with explorer on windows 8 in the US...
I'm just waiting for the synthetic benchmarks that are so biased it's physically painful.
Must be an EU only thing. It comes pre-installed with explorer on windows 8 in the US...
This is because the EU is a more advanced union.
Haha, holy shit. I never expected this at all, what a fantastic job they did I'm really impressed they didn't try the expected route. I'm still not downloading it tho'
IE sucks... less. How is that a marketing campaign? So they admit it sucks, just a little bit less than it did before? Yeah, I'm going to stick with what I have, thanks.
no.. the diehard IE hater admitted IE wasn't that bad, MS isn't admitting their browser sucks. try to keep up ad was surprisingly good and not cunty, and they made a fair point. ie is a decent browser now, it's pretty much just up to preference at this point.
so long as it does not support addons similar to Chrome it is dated.
"it's not my browser so it's dated" lol
"it's not my browser so it's dated" lol
That isn't what I said though, I said if it doesn't support addons then it sucks imo.
That isn't what I said though, I said if it doesn't support addons then it sucks imo.
you realize that if you're intricate with IE you can customize it to do whatever you want right
