• Fast-tracked Ebola Vaccine Now Being Tested in West Africa

[t]http://i.cubeupload.com/zZdpcW.jpg[/t]
Mali has no known ebola cases, though shares a border with Guinea, the nation in which the outbreak began. According to The Guardian, three healthcare workers there have been given the experimental vaccine to test that it has no adverse effects. It's reported that 37 more workers will receive the vaccine in the coming weeks before it can be used in ebola-stricken nations. The efficacy of the vaccine will largely remain unknown until it is used in areas hit with the virus. The vaccine, manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline and developed by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases in Maryland, has been fast-tracked in hopes that it can help turn the tide in the battle against the virus. Just a couple of weeks ago, it was tested on volunteers in the US and UK. Last month, it was successfully tested in monkeys with no ill effects. It's not unusual for a typical vaccine to take as long as a year to go through the same process. It's said that as many as 10,000 doses of the vaccine, which uses a cold virus to deliver a tiny amount of ebola to the body, could be ready by year's end. Now everyone can take a slight sigh of relief that there might be an end to this.
If there's any good to come out of this outbreak, let it be a cure so it never happens again.
If there's any good to come out of this outbreak, let it be a cure so it never happens again.
It's near impossible to cure viral strains... Evolution can be a bitch at times.
I don't know. Do you know? Do you want a hamburger?
A hamburger is fine, but pie is divine. Try some wine with flies before you die. It'll get you high.
Ebola will always be a problem even if a vaccine is distributed, as Africa is so under-developed they believe Ebola is some kind of voodoo magic. What truly needs to be done is the mass education of under developed countries, teaching them how to recognise and handle illness; quarantine, washing hands, etc... Ebola has nowhere to spread in a developed country and the threat is almost negligible, if education is put into action then Ebola will just go back to having a few hundred cases a year in under developed countries.
It'd be really shitty if the vaccine doesn't quite do it's job and infects those people, or if the virus decides it wants to be a douche and mutate. Please no :(
and therell still be nutjobs on my fb newsfeed claiming there is no vaccine and ebola is a false flag operation

I heard an Ebola vaccine wasn't possible. What changed?
I heard an Ebola vaccine wasn't possible. What changed?
it is possible... but they say it's not currently because FUNDING! MONEY! AWARENESS! SELLS! all other bullshit reasons because people don't want to make vaccines and cures out of good will, doctors want to make a profit out of it so they can get rich #AmericanDream
I heard an Ebola vaccine wasn't possible. What changed?
Most vaccines aren't 100% effective. I never heard that a vaccine wasn't possible, only that Ebola wasn't able to be vaccinated against with a very high efficacy due to the nature of the virus and our current knowledge. Take the TB vaccine for example, it's got no protection up to 70 - 80% mean protection

Do you think scientists and doctors only do things "for the greater good"?
