I've always really enjoyed live performances by my favorite artists. Playing live gives them an opportunity to add extra energy and variation from the album versions that we all know and love. In some cases, the live versions can be much better than the studio versions. Here's a few of my favorites:
Phish - Loving Cup
An inspired version of the Rolling Stones classic:

CSNY - Almost Cut My Hair:
Recorded during the infamous 1974 tour, while heavily under the influence of many different drugs, their music somehow pulls them together and they forget just how hopeless they feel for just a few minutes. It starts off kinda slow but really picks up at the end:

Joe Cocker - With A Little Help Of My Friends (Live from Woodstock):
Simply one of the greatest live performances of all time:

Maybe it's just me, but I fucking hate the Joe Cocker version of With A Little Help. I just don't like his voice.

Shit, these guys are more vital and energetic in their 50s and late 40s than most bands are in their 20s.
Live at Donington v:v:v This performance has always made me wonder what it's like to essentially "live in the shadow" of Angus. The rest of AC/DC never gets attention. It's usually Angus and Brian, occasionally Malcolm.

The Stones live in '72, Midnight Rambler

Saw that last December in London's O2. It was absolutely mind-blowing.

Everything live by Rush is an amazing live performance, because they are so amazingly tight, but it's the performance on the Exit Stage Left dvd that I find to be the best.
