5 Minutes from my house. Seriously though, everyone forgets how to drive in the winter every year and this keeps happening.
"It's snowy and surely pretty slippery, let's go 200 mph, what could possibly go wrong" also why are people getting out of their cars and walking into the road? :v:
They just keep going....
There's been an ice storm in Fayetteville ever since friday, and where I live, there's an extremely sharp curve nearby. I could literally go out there and watch a car overshoot the curve and land softly in a snow ditch every 5 minutes
Bunch of slow cars. Then comes the wave of assholes that are going Warp 4. Too bad the traffic cam caught them speeding. Edited:
they were amazed by the number of stranded motorists just standing on the road.
This. Jesus christ. Repeatedly I thought "GET THE FUCK UP ONTO THE HILL!!"
OP, was as anyone seriously hurt?
OP, was as anyone seriously hurt?

Approximately 50 vehicles were involved in the crash near Lannon Rd. near Germantown.
This. Jesus christ. Repeatedly I thought "GET THE FUCK UP ONTO THE HILL!!"
Fucking hell, I don't know how those three people just stood there while that one white car came flying toward them through the snow.
Fucking hell, I don't know how those three people just stood there while that one white car came flying toward them through the snow.
The same way they drove into a pileup by not thinking
This. Jesus christ. Repeatedly I thought "GET THE FUCK UP ONTO THE HILL!!"
They're cheeseheads. They can only be expected to do so much.
The car at 0:28, that went to the right has an amazing driver..
Daft idiots, what were they thinking when they were standing on the road? Especially when there were cars crashing into each other literally a meter in front of them?!
Daft idiots, what were they thinking when they were standing on the road? Especially when there were cars crashing into each other literally a meter in front of them?!
To help people get out? They eventually cross the median to the other side.
To help people get out? They eventually cross the median to the other side.
They're endangering themselves, and others, as they drive into the ditch trying to not hit the people.
If it snows in Britain, then I am not driving my motorcycle to college. Slipping off hurt back in summer, the cold would make me want to die.
I love how the semi tractor trailer loaded with cargo manages to stop in more than enough time, but all of these cars hit their brakes when they're less than 100 feet away.
Retards. Why drive that fast on ICE?!
I kept laughing the whole way through. Just because no one actually got injured and it almost seemed comedic.
I kept laughing the whole way through. Just because no one actually got injured and it almost seemed comedic.
If this was a whiteout, I would totally understand. But looking at how clear the weather looks, seems to me like nobody was paying any attention. dumb

I've had a couple of them cut me off or tailgate me, but almost all of them give more than enough space to everyone around them. Cars on the other hand...
If this was a whiteout, I would totally understand. But looking at how clear the weather looks, seems to me like nobody was paying any attention. dumb
If it's a whiteout you either slow to a crawl or stop. You don't plow on through at 90mph.
If it's a whiteout you either slow to a crawl or stop. You don't plow on through at 90mph.
You'd certainly hope so. I've seen people going by at 50-60mph WITHOUT THEIR LIGHTS ON in whiteouts. People can be fucking dumb.
They have an engine brake which acts like a reverse thrust on a landing plane in the sense it relies on the engine, the ones on semis are really strong so they probably used it.
..? Every vehicle has an engine brake. It's called down shifting.
..? Every vehicle has an engine brake. It's called down shifting.
I'm not good at cars. I just know that whenever a diesel truck brakes here it stops fast and is louder than a jet.
This video pretty neatly sums up why I'm iffy about driving in the snow. It doesn't matter how good I get at it, someone else on the road is going to go full retard and crash into everything around them. And there's a chance I'm around them when they do it.
I love how the semi tractor trailer loaded with cargo manages to stop in more than enough time, but all of these cars hit their brakes when they're less than 100 feet away.
I'm not. Those trucks mass upwards of 70,000 pounds on a fairly regular basis(Max gross weight per DOT regulations is 80,000 pounds). Add to that the rather large amount of rubber touching the ground and relatively weak brakes(Drums are by and large still the standard, believe it or not), toss in a sprinkling of higher standards required to be licensed to drive one, and you have a vehicle that handles rather well on ice. The guys that drive them over the ice sheets up in the arctic don't even need studded tires, the sheer mass of the rig and the amount of contact with the ground means standard snow tires are more than adequate for most days. Accelerating isn't all that hard, either, since most of them have an option of engaging all eight rear wheels. 8WD + that much weight = it's going somewhere most days. You pretty much have to go full retard to lose control of a fully loaded semi truck, honestly. Source: I've been on one quite a few times and my dad's been driving one for a decade.
I don't know if it's just my experience or not, but the vast majority of truck drivers I see on the road seem to be very good drivers. Cars on the other hand...
The licensing requirements for driving one of those trucks tends to make it harder for morons to get behind the wheel.
They have an engine brake which acts like a reverse thrust on a landing plane in the sense it relies on the engine, the ones on semis are really strong so they probably used it.
Actually, they didn't. Using the jake brake(As it's called) on snow and ice is just begging for a jackknife. It's no different than pulling the handbrake in a passenger car in those conditions. The main use for the jake brake is hill descent. Going down a steep hill on the brakes will quickly overheat them, but by using the jake brake, a safe speed can be maintained without overheating the brakes.
..? Every vehicle has an engine brake. It's called down shifting.
Every gasoline vehicle. Diesel engines have a laughably low amount of innate engine braking, so low as to consider it negligible. Jake brakes are special equipment that some diesel vehicles have fitted to give them engine braking. What it does is it holds the exhaust valve closed for part of the exhaust stroke, forcing the engine to compress the exhaust, which gives it engine braking. As for why? It's simple. Diesel engines do not have a throttle in the intake. They're always 'wide open' and govern their speed/output by varying the amount of fuel injected. Gasoline cars use a throttle in the intake to govern speed, and when closed, the vacuum the engine draws behind it serves as an engine brake.
I'm not good at cars. I just know that whenever a diesel truck brakes here it stops fast and is louder than a jet.
Yeah, the jake brake is pretty stupidly loud. A lot of towns ban their use inside city limits because of that.
Good, fucking idiots like these deserve to crash.
