Heavy Metal is a 1981 Canadian animated film from executive producer Leonard Mogel, who was also the publisher of Heavy Metal magazine. The film is an anthology of various science fiction and fantasy stories adapted from Heavy Metal magazine and original stories in the same spirit. Like the magazine, the film has a great deal of graphic violence, nudity, and sexuality. There should be a hellish beast in the poster, not some pterodactyl.
So that's what the South Park episode was referencing. This looks good too.
I've seen Heavy Metal 2000 (shit is fucked) and very little of this one.
Absolutely horrible. Watched it a year or three ago on DVD. I wanted a refund, even though I didn't even spend any money to watch it. Easily one of the worst movies I've ever watched. Right up there with The Good Shepherd. Actually, it has to be better, because I could at least finish this film. If you haven't seen the film, then I highly recommend you never do. Trust me. [editline]fish[/editline] Not to mention it didn't even have any actual metal in it. The closest to anything "metal" that was in the movie was "Taking a Ride," and that's just hard rock. That being said, that was the only scene I enjoyed. So just watch this segment here - it's the only thing worth watching in the whole film. And if you think this part is really cool, trust me, the rest of the film isn't even related to it, so if you're going to watch because of this, just don't. You gotta blitz the fuck out before watching the movie, its really trippy stuff lol

Don't have any plans to, either. I didn't know about this. :v: My point stands, though. I still didn't find it to be that good. At all.
It's worth watching for the hand-drawn animation alone, not to mention the Soft Landing and Taarna segments. The other segments I thought weren't as good.

I liked it... Heavy Metal 2000 was really nice too (the soundtrack is A HELLUVA LOT better IMO)
Heavy Metal is one of my favorite cult films. I had seen the "Major Boobage" episode of South Park years after seeing Heavy Metal (of which i was too young to have seen at the time) and it was an excellent tribute to the movie. The soundtrack was a little bit of a dissapointment. It had "Open Arms" by Journey on it's soundtrack, which is one of the least metal things i could think of. Other than that, i didn't really mind the soundtrack, it was ok and served it's purpose. The animation was awesome, with a different style with each story. It really meshed well. I wouldn't mind seeing this movie on drugs (which i don't recommend taking drugs) just to see how it would fuck with my head. The sequel was pretty terrible. It felt like a short story or movie stretched out to a feature film. And was completely unnecessary. I also felt with that soundtrack that it wasn't amazing, it just served it's purpose, like the first one. It had Insane Clown Posse, which i felt out of place.
Ahh Heavy Metal, that was a good movie
this is great
it's funny because heavy metal has nothing to do with the music. great film btw. 2000 wasn't as good.
I just watched it, holy shit that was good.
So that's what the South Park episode was referencing. This looks good too.
The episode is 1000x funnier if you've seen even a little bit of this movie.
They are going to release another one. I think James Cameron and David Fincher are attached along with a few other directors. So it's going to be in 3D with at least one story that won't make any sense. That would make it one of those movies that i would watch in 3D, like Jackass 3D and Crank 3D.
Last i heard the new one is also gonna have jack black + kung-fu panda director doing a segment, and, of course, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles creator doing a segment.

So it's going to be childish?
So it's going to be childish?
why would you assume that? just because of the jack black part? [editline]25th March 2011[/editline] "On 4 September 2008, Eastman was quoted as saying "Fincher is directing one, Guillermo del Toro wants to direct one, Zack Snyder wants to direct one, Gore Verbinski wants to direct one." that'd be awesome.
That part where the lady in the pentagon going on a UFO was just weird and didn't really relate to the overall theme of the green orb influencing evil stuff. [editline]25th March 2011[/editline] Everything else though was cool as hell
why would you assume that? just because of the jack black part? this movie gave me my first boner for a cartoon
no, because of the rest of what you said too....
fyi the creator of TMNT is also the current owner, editor, and publisher of Heavy Metal magazine, and the person putting this film together. It'd be silly to assume he's going to make something childish. It's heavy metal, after all.
A Not to mention it didn't even have any actual metal in it. The closest to anything "metal" that was in the movie was "Taking a Ride," and that's just hard rock.
Pfft long haired hipster faggot who thinks that his screamo shit is the real metal.
When i think of Heavy Metal, i think Ozzy Osbourne, Black Sabbath and Metallica, not "Open Arms" by Journey and "All of You" by Don Felder. The soundtrack could have been improved greatly.
