Quentin Tarantino Shelves ‘The Hateful Eight’ After Betrayal Results In Script Leak.
Learning today that his script The Hateful Eight leaked after he gave it to a small circle of actors, Quentin Tarantino tells me that he’s so upset that he has decided that he will not direct that film next. So basically that means the conversation that will be circulating around town following this story with Tarantino goes from an ensemble Western to a whodunit. As in, which actor or their reps leaked the script that, as a result, is going on the shelf — literally a bookstore shelf, because Tarantino tells me he will publish it first and maybe revisit the prospect of a movie in the next five years.
“I’m very, very depressed,” Tarantino said. “I finished a script, a first draft, and I didn’t mean to shoot it until next winter, a year from now. I gave it to six people, and apparently it’s gotten out today.” He learned that when his longtime agent Mike Simpson began getting phone calls from agents looking to pitch their clients for roles in the ensemble Western.
Oh what...
here's to something better in its place?
Tarantino should do a scifi maybe.
I'm legitimately super upset.
That's awful :(
Fortunately he has another script he'll do instead, but that really sucks

cyberpunk tarantino movie would be cool as fuck
this is the first time I've ever been upset over a movie being canned. even a little sad for quentin because it sounded like it could have been an awesome movie.
I'm having a hard time believing that he wanted to do this movie badly in the first place then.

maybe he should go back to the things that made him famous
crime-drama
Guess we're not getting new Tarantino anytime soon. :(

When you keep doing the same shit, people get tired of you
maybe he should go back to the things that made him famous

why? the guy's great at merging genres and i'd love to see a sci fi from him. he doesn't need to be scorcese and do the same thing over and over again
I want to know who those 6 actors were.
maybe he should go back to the things that made him famous

I'd rather have him try new things before going back to form
How could you be in Hollywood that long and still have trust exist within you?
that said i also don't want his filmmaking to turn into "a western: by quentin tarantino. a scifi: by quentin tarantino. a romcom: by quentin tarantino."
I think a horror movie by Tarantino would be interesting. Although a scifi movie would be bad ass.
God dammit. I was really looking forward to this.
What's the point in shelving it, even if it was leaked. What does it really change that matters?
What's the point in scrapping it, even if it was leaked. What does it really change that matters?
Shelved =/= Scrapped
It all sounds a bit fishy. Mainly because both Inglourious Basterds and Django Unchained scripts has leaked before even reaching filming. What's more, only yesterday Harvey Weinstein vowed to stop making excessively violent films (although it's Weinstein and his word isn't worth much). Maybe it was Tarantino who leaked it, for reasons unknown for the rest of us.
Whatever happened I hope it's not for long, and he will return to that script soon.

Completely unlikely, considering how old-fashioned Tarantino is. He doesn't even have a cellphone or computer, and what's more important, absolutely no interest in that genre.

Him being old-fashioned and having absolutely no interest in the genre only makes me think he'd do a kickass job of finding his own way to make the genre interesting.

It'll be so old that's it's new
This is why you give every actor a slightly different script, so you can tell who is responsible for the leak.
How self-righteous

I wouldn't be surprised if this was the last straw and he got tired of his works being leaked so in order to alleviate some frustration he puts this aside to start fresh on a new idea or brain storming.

Self-righteous?
Do you know how hard it is to write a good screenplay? Especially to the length Tarantino usually writes? To have it leaked is basically putting in all that effort for nothing, especially since it's also a first draft. I don't blame him at all.

Though it sucks for the other actors, at least it will send an important message to the one who leaked the script that "leaking the script comes at the expense of your part being lost".
I never watched a Tarantino movie. Should i do it RIGHT NOW?
