www is just a subdomain and hasn't been necessary for every website for a long time. Garry just hasn't set up the hosts correctly.

www. is merely a subdomain. Basically it's just for telling actual websites apart from other services like ftp, irc, mail and whatever you can host on a server. Since most domains only ever lead to websites anyway this is and has always been horribly useless.
Just temporarily favourite [url]http://www.facepunch.com[/url] because its been turning on and off all day.

Same here but thats mainly because any .com sites I just type the name then press Crtl + Enter.
