Don't worry about an exquisite camera- the first step to becoming good photography has nothing to do with buying a good camera. Anything that takes pictures will suffice.

Look for a camera that interests you and then look up a review, try and find one that shows you pictures taken with the camera. Or you can put it here, I am sure someone will be able to tell you a little about it.

If you want to improve at photography get a film camera, a compact has little creative control for things such as f-stop(also can't achieve a shallow DoF), shutter speed etc.
