I have never seen fan games start like this, and end up being good.

Usually their C&D'd to oblivion, but AFAIK Lego is relatively chill about fan works compared to say Squeanix.
holy fuck I'm not even gonna watch this I'm gonna play it RIGHT DAMN NOW

LEGO is very chill about this stuff. Fans have resurrected the old MMO LEGO Universe and IIRC LEGO gave them the go-ahead to do it too.
People will never understand just how great Bionicle's story really is. It was more than a toy line. It was a fucking way of life.
All I remember about Bionicle is Makuta and those McDonald Bionicle figures I think.
If it's not a 1:1 recreation of the old Bionicle "Mata Nui Adventure" flash game I ain't playing it. :P
Seriously, though, that game was the bomb.

Why have a recreation when you can play the original?
Masks of Power looks like it takes heavy inspiration from MNOG in its locations. Figures since MNOG is practically worshiped by the BIONICLE fanbase.
Goddamnit hearing all these names again after so long, nostalgia just hit me like a truck.

Not Matoro's death, but this was awesome. Advance Copenhagen's work for BIONICLE was great.

I was a Bionicle kid myself. As an adult, I realize that the execution of the story wasn't perfect, but I've also gain a lot more appreciation for the underlying themes once I found out that the whole damn thing was an allegory for one of the co-creators' battle with cancer.
I always liked Bionicle but I never really understood what the story was about.

It's a long story, but it's pretty fun once you get started. It gets darker and darker to more you look into it.
Man, I thought I was over these buggers coming to an end, but oh my god am I not over it. So not over it.

I ended up losing my bionicle comic collection from moving a bunch of times, when the only way to get them was from a lego magazine subscription so knowing they have been archived online has made me very happy.
I always looked forward to getting those in the mail.
It's a shame the toa in that line were so unimaginative and made of brittle as fuck plastic.
You're thinking of 2008's sets, not 2007's Toa with the plastic. 2007 had an issue with oxygen bubbles inside lime-colored plastic but the rest of the plastic was perfectly fine and no different from previous years. In 2008 LEGO reworked the mould for the female-type joints which royally fucked every set that used ball joints until 2012 when the CCBS system was fully integrated with regular System pieces.

And then they suddenly stopped for me.
Lego magazine was the coolest shit.

MNOG 2.

I loved both of these games.
The great thing about these games is that they're vector art, so they still look good even to this day.
Man I remember playing the crap out of the flash game when I was a kid. I have to check this out.

Used to diss the Bionicles because i really didn't like the appearance.
Boy i was wrong, i'm glad there's support for them

Actually, it was 2011 that introduced the building system Lego officially calls CCBS, with Hero Factory Reign of Fire/Savage Planet. 2012 crazily enough was a step backwards, because they brought back the helmets from the first wave of Hero Factory, which were only compatible with the horrible transparent Glatorian heads from the ninth year of Bionicle. Only in 2013 did they finally bury the old style constraction joints for good.
I have to say, after trying the demo this has a lot of potential. What I really like is the ability to switch masks for different powers. Switching to Pohatu's mask and being able to sprint even faster made travelling a lot more fun. Also, there's a fair amount of locations ready to be built upon. I'll have to keep an eye on the development of this
how can i play dis game ?
I don't think C&D is what -usually- happens, but moreso that fan game devs are usually beginners who lose interest or leave for more lucrative projects as their skills improve. Namely projects they can actually make fame and money with.
Also if you've got devs coming and going, the project eventually becomes impossible to manage and progress grinds to a halt.
