World Cup hosts Qatar sets dress code for tourists
There remains no lack of controversy or outrage that Qatar will host the World Cup in 2022 and fashion rulings are very low on the list of concerns.
But thinking about how an influx of tourists might affect the small Middle Eastern nation is certainly troubling some people, if this new campaign is anything to go by.
The new Reflect Your Respect campaign, which officially launches in Qatar next month, is designed to help western tourists learn about local modest clothing standards and it is, shall we say, perhaps a tiny bit patronising.
Qatar Islamic Cultural Center, which is behind the campaign.
Quite what such stringent measures mean for the players themselves is anyone's guess at this point.
Playing in conditions that are almost too hot to sit outside in is hard enough wearing shorts and training without a shirt on.

i'm sorry but... disallowing people to wear shorts in 40+ degrees weather is clinically insane.

I imagine like other Islamic countries; with public floggings.
I'm gonna cover myself from shoulders to knees with only ultra transparent clothes.
It's like FIFA wants people to hate the World Cup now.
You need to do this is many countries in the world already.
This is just to help remind the culturally uneducated.

Um, no - you don't.
One of the hottest places in the world and they ask people not to wear shorts.
What a load of shit, they probably wouldn't have gotten the hosting rights if they'd put that picture on their proposal.

Like people are actually going to take this seriously.
Are Qatar's cultures & values anything like Dubai's? Because I cut about there in shorts and a t-shirt and I didn't get stoned to death.
Haha jokes on them! I didn´t even plan to go to Quatar! Fuck shitty hot weather.
I am gonna move to britain.

They should have put 'one migrant worker death per day' on their proposal too
and what about preserving other countries cultures and values eh?

Honestly, you're better off wearing multiple layers of a light fabric (like linen) that fit rather loosely. Keeps the sun off your skin, lets your body breathe, and the layers of air between the layers of fabric stay cooler than outside.
It's still a shit thing to do though to enforce it for 'muh culture'
I like how one of them has muffin top. :v:
'muh culture'
While every nation's culture is important, I agree with this.
It's just bloody rude to invite everyone to your country and then wait for them to accept before telling them to not show any skin.
-snip nm didnt read-
Do the women tourists have to wear those burka things too?
Having lived in Qatar, I can tell you this won't be enforced in the slightest.
Do the women tourists have to wear those burka things too?
It's Qatar, not Saudi Arabia.

Pictured: correct dress in Qatar.
You people who want to wear shorts and t-shirts in Qatar all of places have obviously NO clue how to deal with warmth and prolonged sunlight.
Wearing clothing covering the arms and legs, while still being thin and breathing, as well as white, is the best way to go.
- Someone who lived in Qatar for a year
This man speaks the truth. Unless you want to look like a lobster, you should cover yourself in thin clothing anyway.
shorts above the knee

thx sheikh man, you're too kind.
Heh, good luck with that.
As if the heat and huge crowds weren't enough of a bitch already...
Maybe try white, or reflective clothings, lol.
