just play god hand
The part that always gets me is when he punches that one zombie into the air and then jumps up and kicks him away. Fucking extreme.
Oh man this brought back memories of my bitterness over this game. I remember the original descriptions made it sound like a STALKER style game with various factions fighting for survival on a island filled with zombies, and then it came out and it was just trash
i will always remember playing this game on release because they accidentally sent out the dev version to the steam servers instead of retail and you could activate all the cheats and shit easily. also the stupid animations are funny as shit
also the stupid animations are funny as shit
When I think of Dead Island's funky animations, I think of the Spike and Barley videos.
This game was total garbage, but me and my friends had so much fun with it. We all had modded weapons that launched enemies into orbit, and there was a glitch where if you fired a semi auto shotgun inside of a truck, it would flip out and go flying all over the map. We could barely breathe we were laughing so hard :v:
I take issue with this game being labeled garbage. It was a fun game, but mostly shined in coop. The mindset that a coop game that is fun only in coop is garbage winds up being sort of toxic. You get stuff like army of two or mercenaries, which were hilarious in coop, getting ragged on by folks because the amusement isn't the same in single. Which is frustrating because it leads to the destruction of coop franchises. Like the two previous examples.

You don't see people shitting on the Halo series for its co-op, because they're (generally) good games in both single and co-op. Besides, what isn't better played with friends? It elevates any game, but I don't think it excuses any of them of their faults, either.
This game had problems for sure but I remember really enjoying my first playthrough. In a world without dying light it had its place.
I played this solo and tbh I actually really enjoyed it people shit on it but its actually pretty unique in its own ways. When you play it though, you have to remember that this is from the devs of Dying Light before Dying Light was a thing.
The melee combat is satisfying, IMO. You feel every hit and swing that connects to a zombie and a lot of weapons have got some serious weight which causes zombies to be knocked down to the ground and hear their bones shatter. It's cool to use a sledgehammer on a larger zombie's arms, break them, and watch them try to hit you while they dangle about.
One thing I remember most from this game was that goddamn escort mission later into the game when you were in the jungle that I got stuck on and was never able to beat the game. fuck that mission, dude couldn't fight worth shit and kept dying and i ended up using up all my good weapons trying to protect his stupid ass from sprinting zombies/that one zombie with blade arms.
the (albeit scaled back from the reveal) skin deformation system was also really cool (and scrapped in the expansion which was lame as hell) was really neat lighting a zombie on fire and seeing their skin dynamically burn away, or slashing at a thug until its chest is just muscle and bone
got any demonstrations? sounds neat
Speaking of Dead Island, what happened to Dead Island 2? It had that great trailer and then...nothing.
Speaking of Dead Island, what happened to Dead Island 2? It's probably in development hell since Dying Light overtook it.

The combat in Dead Island was visceral and felt great, but MAN this game was a slog. It was just fetch quests with zombies in between. It got stale 3 hours in, and then goes on for another 5. There was absolutely no variety, and the light upgrade system did absolutely nothing for me.
