We heard earlier today from Kotaku that Wii U production has officially ended in Japan. The publication has now reached out to Nintendo of America who have told the publication that Wii U production has now ended globally. This paves the way for the upcoming Nintendo Switch console which launches on March 3rd worldwide.
Goodnight, sweet prince.
Glad i bought mine for christmas
Already? Were they just not making a lot of money?
honestly sucks to see it widely panned because the dual screen gameplay is great for asynchronous couch multiplayer. sadly it just never got realized :/
the vita and wii u will be remembered as this generation's dreamcast
At least the dreamcast actually did some original shit
the vita and wii u had nothing that was really new at all
I mean shit the DC was the first one that had internet sooo

You'd be surprised how few people even know what it is

The second screen is simple, sure, but I rather liked it

Funny you mention that, because the DC was the first console do do 2nd screen in the controller stuff
the gamepad was only used well for menu's and hiding stuff from other players. The use was way the fuck too small for it to really have been worth centering the console around.
there are really no worth-while uses for the thing, really.

The Dreamcast was definitely ahead of its time. It also outputs a VGA signal, and most of the games have pretty darn good image quality if you run it through a VGA box. I currently own 4 Dreamcasts, just in case I need spare parts for my original console :v:
But with that being said I'm glad I bought a Wii-U, it does have some pretty great titles. Not to mention it makes for a nice GC / Dolphin substitute with Nintendont loaded onto the vWii mode. Certainly beats paying $250+ for original GC component cables, and the image quality is definitely better than using an original Wii with component cables.
Sucks that when I got my WiiU back in 2016 for my birthday I didn't realize that Nintendo quit on the system by that point. Not that I was late; I REALLY wanted to play Bayonetta 2, the new Smash Bros game and Xenoblade Chronicles.
tbh I both love and regret my Wii U
it has great games on it but I would have been better off just spending that money on my PC instead and waiting for them to be emulated on PC.
Me and my brother have been thinking about buying a Wii U, even though we're already planning to drop a lot on the Switch. It's probably going to be either/or
Maybe I should buy a Wii U since it's going out of production and I probably won't be finding it cheaper, meanwhile everything on Switch is going to be full-price
I really want to play Bayonetta and Smash 4 :v:
Maybe my Wii U would be worth resale now but hell no, i'm not selling something I was giddy as hell to get in 2012 before the industry shoved it to its slow demise.

Wrong Answer. The Sega Channel on the genesis is actually credited to being a huge player in the distribution of copperwire broadband such as DOCSIS due to its role in cleaning the signal output of a few cable tv services.
Amazing how you can go from such a behemoth success in the Wii to the relative massive failure of the Wii U.
If they actually advertised the damn thing, I'm sure that more people would have even just been aware of it.

The concept of the second screen was great. I loved playing offscreen while watching a movie. Other than that it was used rather creatively in a few games. It did more original stuff than Xbox One and PS4.
And the Vita had a touchscreen on the backside. Show me where these things had been done before.

Same company though. Sega was ahead of its time back in the day, sad what ultimately happened with them.

They pretty much shot themselves in the foot by naming it Wii U; a lot of people assumed it was some sort of add-on to the Wii rather than a standalone product. I doubt that impression is something advertising could've fixed.

Now they're doing a bit of an opposite: advertising very well with the Switch, but so far, aside from the main feature, people aren't too excited about what they're hearing.

Yeah, shit sucks. I already pre-ordered mine (I know what I'll get anyway) but all the other things they slowly announce really are bad. It seems to be an amazing console but all these backwards decisions by Nintendo really make it seem bad.
So does this mean prices for them go up or down?
I'd like to just grab a cheap one for just certain games.
Check in the refurbished section on Nintendo's website. They are cheaper than retail and still get the 1 year warranty. Most people have had good experiences with them.

It's bad when Pokemon Sun & Moon outsold the Wii U completely.
Nintendo better be making a Pokemon game for the Switch, becuase that alone will make the Switch sell like hotcakes.

I wish that it existed when I was a kid. So many times waiting for my mom to stop watching TV after school. Fuck you Opera Winfrey.

I remember having to fight over the living room TV back then. I was overjoyed when my grandparents let us have their spare 20" GE TV (with fake wood grain finish), and I was able to put in my room.
