Hello friends,
Six years ago, we started a journey born out of our shared love for competitive fighting games. Eventually, the electrifying passion that coursed through us arced out and drew in more people until our small circle of friends grew into a team, and that team grew into an international community. Project M and its community have grown larger than any of us ever anticipated, and it’s truly heartwarming to see all of the unforgettable connections and friendships that have been forged through this project.
Unfortunately, we’re here to say that we’re at the end of that road.
Seems the developers are quitting, though it's rather strange, they were in the middle of hyping up 4.0 Why the sudden drop in development? Even all the download links are gone?
Did Nintendo have something to do with this? If so why didn't they say anything about it? And I never heard of a ND of a C&D.

I've never heard of this, what was it?
rip in peace
I feel like TPP might have something to do with this, but I could be wrong.

Which game?
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
[snip] Thar be ninjas snoopin about.
Bummer, super sudden too. I wonder if some of the devs landed a job at Nintendo or something. But knowing Nintendo it was probably a C&D.
Honestly I'm surprised it took this long for Nintendo to take action.
What the fuck, no, fuck you, this is out of no where
Well this came out of nowhere
Honestly I'm surprised it took this long for Nintendo to take action.
There was no C&D
There was no C&D
How do you know?
Honestly I'm surprised it took this long for Nintendo to take action.
There is no confirmation of any sort of that happening.
How do you know?
One of the devs said so on Reddit. Of course it's always possible it's a cover-up, but who knows. https://www.reddit.com/user/GHNeko
There was no C&D
Nintendo is pretty trigger happy with that. Dunno
I've never heard of this, what was it?
The best mix of competitive but not obtusely hard to pick up smash gameplay.
It mixed the depth and mechanics of melee with laxed controls and easier to pick up and have fun play.
A sort of mix of melee and brawl that made an effort to balance all characters to be viable, there better be a damn good reason it's ending.
How do you know?
One of hte dev's on reddit said there wasn't.

Weird, seems crazy they were hyping up 4.0 just a few weeks ago and now the entire project is suddenly dead.

No doubt it was something sudden.
Nintendo is pretty trigger happy with that. Dunno
If Project M was being worked on for 6-7 years, Nintendo would have been pretty late to the draw for them to be considered trigger happy.
A lot of his posts say "it's what I'm allowed to talk about". I wonder if they're helping with Smash on NX, i bet Nintendo would love to see some of that competitive Smash money.

It's a little too soon to be talking about Smash on NX
There is no confirmation of any sort of that happening.
In summary, we are ceasing development of Project M (effective immediately) and will be making no further releases as we turn our attention towards an entirely new venture. As the PMDev team will be formally disbanded, please forward all official communications regarding Project M to video game attorney and business consultant . We appreciate your support and your understanding.
They didn't directly say it but by saying 'talk to our attorney' it's kinda of implied that Nintendo did or said SOMETHING even if it wasn't a CND.
It's a little too soon to be talking about Smash on NX
Sure, but I'm just speculating.
I feel like TPP might have something to do with this, but I could be wrong.
Nope... also Off topic... there is a GOOD chance it will not pass the US congress... Trump, Hillary, Sanders are against this plus election season..., an recent article basically saying that Obama might try to go against the TPA and try the lame duck congress which would barely have any improvement.

It also says "difficult business decision" and "tough call to make" in the same post. Kind of implies they had a choice.
Nintendo has been after these guys for a while now. Last time I heard about the debacle, talk about Project M was banned on the Miiverse. And rightly so - the mod utilizes their IP and requires a modded console to play.
Still quite a bummer, even though I never understood the hype behind Melee that much.
Hell I would be happy if Nintendo offered them a job.
