PC players "need" a controller to play Assassins Creed 3
Due to a recent Gamespy interview, we've learned from Assassin's Creed III's creative director Alex Hutchinson that if you want to play the game on PC, you "should" be using a controller. What does that even mean? Well for starters, he's saying that Ubisoft won't be focusing on keyboard support.
Alex goes on to state "I don’t see us investing hugely in a mouse and keyboard setup. I think if you want to play on PC and you want to play Assassin’s Creed, you have a controller." As someone who did play through Assassin's Creed I on PC with a 360 controller, I'm wondering why Ubisoft would even say something like this in the first place. I guess this is what they meant by adding "value" to their PC games.
If you think you're the first person to get upset over this -- you aren't! After all, how could you feel safe at home at night without knowing there's a petition for you to sign for proper PC support?

Erm no. Never had a problem with Mouse and Keyboard on PC Assassins Creed.

Fuck you you corporate bastard.

Lazy ass console porters.

Brotherhood and Revelations had remarkably good keyboard support. If they keep up with the level of those two I'll be happy.
I admit, a controller is still a better choice for the AC games on PC
Keyboard is my fucking controller.
What now, ubisoft, what now?
It's no doubt for a game like AC, controller usage and support is only natural. Like playing Mechwarrior with a joystick. But it works good with M+KB too, and having them basically say they don't intend to really support or care about the PC platform but still charge us extortionist $60 prices blows my mind.
Stop being so damned lazy and irate towards PC, Ubisoft.
Assassin's creed sucked dick after 2 anyway imo
This is must be some kind of a pre April fools joke? One of the main reasons I use my computer to play games is that I can use a keyboard and mouse.
How disappointing.
As stupid as that is, I have no setbacks with that, I just purchased a Razer Onza for use with Assassins Creed games.
Why does Ubisoft even bother with PC anymore, they don't seem to care at all about us. Why should they even bother anymore. why should we?
The only games where a controller is notably superior than a mouse and keyboard is in platformers and racing games.
Hell, even if you're using the M/KB set, it's still fairly easy to use. Look at Nitronic Rush.
Wonder if it's also gonna have their shitty DRM...
Well, I find playing AC with a controller is yonks better than keyboard anyway.
Fuck the system, keyboard and mouse ueber alles

To be honest I think it's what you're used to. A joystick is a good unique controll platform because it offers more minute control (and allows for better more minute adjustment turns) but a game like AC, shooters or even platforms just feels utterly alien to me when using a controller.
Keep in mind the last time I used a controller for any game where a joystick isn't better (mechwarrior, flyer etc where I do tend to pop in the 360 one) was on the old old PSx.
So it's only natural that it feels reallu awkward on platformers and similar.
For me playing with a controller is like trying to write a letter right handed. The result is a horrible horrible mess with absolutely zero control.
I love how Ubi thinks its good business sense to keep giving a chunk of their market and profits continuing reasons to not want to buy their products, thats what gets me about this. It's not even done on accident, it's totally intentional that they develop and publish games like this
lol
I had no problem with keyboard and mouse controls in AC2, Brotherhood, and Revelations.
I can't imagine they are going out of their way to ruin what works so this is probably just the developers saying they aren't doing anything special in respect to keyboard controls rather than them not working at all.
Ubisoft are just taking the piss now
I've always used a Controller for AC.
I hated the mouse/keyboard Controls, I could never set them up so they were comfortable.
Meanwhile they keep whining that PC sales are underwhelming. Well no fucking shit if you keep pulling shit like this.
This is stupid. I do think everyone should own a controller, some games just don't really work with KB&M, it shouldn't be required in games where they work just fine.
Apparently a lot of you guys don't understand the quotations around "need."
They're saying a controller would be better for a game like AC. If you've ever played AC on consoles and PC, you'd know this. It simply works better in nearly every way.
Keyboard + 2 Mouse Buttons is much more comfortable than controller for me.
I started playing Assassin's Creed on the Xbox, then moved to the PC for AC2 and further. Now that I have a 360 controller for my PC, I've tried playing AC2 with it, and I can't. Need to play with the mouse and keyboard from now on. Fuck you Ubisoft!
I agree that playing with a controller is a lot better. I've played 5 minutes of the first with a keyboard+mouse and couldn't stand it, turned on my Dualshock 3 and played all the games in the series with it since.

I remember AC2's controls.
A = Spacebar
B = Shift
X = F
Y = E
Fuck, it was the most painful thing. I had to contort my hands in the weirdest way to play.
AC is like a racing game. Works best with a controller, somewhat playable with keyboard and mouse.
Good thing any decent PC gamer has a console controller for just an occasion.
Still lazy as shit on the developers part.
