Hey, Facepunch. About a week ago, I was given a Violin Bass by a friend since she knows I was a big fan of the Beatles and have been interested in playing bass for a while. I was given just the bass, along with a broken amp plug, strap, and nothing else. I have bought a pick and a case, but then I was wondering about this. I do not know what kind of interface I should buy for the guitar, and I've ruled out amp since I'd rather play it through my PC quietly than interrupt everyone who lives in my house while they're sleeping. (I practice bass at night). What kind of interface should I get?
This is what my Bass looks like if anyone is curious.

cheap and p good.
I can attest to the m-audio fast track being real good, been using mine for quite some time and I can't really find anything to complain about, it gives you both an xlr input as well as a direct instrument cable, so you can use it for recording live stuff as well.
I recommend the Akai EIE. Very cheap, very useful. 4 XLR and Jack combo inputs, VU Meters, 4 channel output, individual gain, phantom power and you don't need your computer to even be on if you just wanna practice, because you can send the inputs directly to the headphones, bypassing everything else.
Here's what I use, it is an amp but it''s low wattage and has a headphone jack on it.

It might be shitty though because it's the only amp I've ever used and I'm pretty new to playing music in general so my opinion might not be valid.
