The combined average temperature over global land and ocean surfaces for April 2012 was 14.35°C (57.87°F), which is 0.65°C (1.17°F) above the 20[SUP]th[/SUP] century average of 13.7°C (56.7°F). The margin of error associated with this temperature is ±0.08°C (0.14°F). The global temperature departure from the 20[SUP]th[/SUP] century average and the monthly rank were the highest since November 2010, near the onset of first back-to-back La Niñas in 2010. The global land surface temperature was 1.39°C (2.50°F) above the 20[SUP]th[/SUP] century average of 8.1°C (46.5°F), making this the second warmest April, behind 2007. The margin of error is ±0.11°C (0.20°F). For the ocean, the April global sea surface temperature was 0.38°C (0.68°F) above the 20[SUP]th[/SUP] century average of 16.0°C (60.9°F)—the 11[SUP]th[/SUP] warmest April on record. The margin of error is ±0.04°C (0.07°F). Averaging the global land and ocean as a whole, the combined land and ocean surface temperature during April 2012 was 0.65°C (1.17°F) above the 20[SUP]th[/SUP] century average of 13.7°C (56.7°F), marking the fifth warmest April since records began in 1880 and the 326[SUP]th[/SUP]consecutive month with a global temperature above the 20[SUP]th[/SUP] century average. February 1985 was the last month with below-average temperatures, at 0.01°C (0.02°F) below average. This was also the warmest global land and ocean surface temperature anomaly since November 2010, near the onset of first back-to-back La Niñas in 2010. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Data: http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/sotc/global/2012/4
Yes, you read that correctly - the 326th consecutive month with above-normal temps. But, I'm sure its just a fluke. --------------------- More news from Australia:
The rise in temperatures in and around Australia since 1950 has been unprecedented, a new study shows. A team led by scientists at the University of Melbourne has found no period during the past 1000 years matches the warming experienced in Australasia in the past 60 years. To ensure the results were accurate, the team's reconstruction used 27 natural climate records which were calculated in 3000 different ways. This is just some liberal conspiracy to distract me from my fight against civil liberties for homosexuals. Please remove yourself from America, you aren't welcome.
So thats what? 27 years?

In my opinion, this isn't surprising or even all that remarkable. Even with human influence on the climate, the fact of the matter is that we're still coming out of an ice age. Temperatures are supposed to be getting consistently warmer. It's the rate of warming that's the concern here.

This is happening monthly, annually, bi-annually and per decade. But yes, you are correct. We should be warming, but as you said the rate is not consistent with past post ice-age cycles.
So after 326 months, wouldn't this be considered normal?
I'm starting to feel like the world is ending.
I'm starting to get the feel like the world is ending.
And I feel fine.

The liberal war on profit I tell you! They want us to stop working and deny hard working corporations their well deserved cash, and have us move back to caves! what I am going to hear the next time my mom turns on the radio
I'm starting to get the feel like the world is ending.
Not to trivialize the matter, but it might be more helpful to think of this (relatively) rapid climate change as an adaptation period for humanity and many other species, rather than going to the extreme "we're all fucked". It's very likely that within the next few decades we're going to see a massive change in how our society operates, all in preparation for an inevitably warmer world. The earth was going to get warmer no matter what; it's just happening a hell of a lot faster than we were expecting.

I'm sure it'll stop eventually.
Global warming isnt real. Buy more gas plz.
Well it's hard NOT to say that the human populace hasn't had some kind of impact in the climate... but I mean it's also natural for it to get warmer. I think there's more pressing issues at hand such as pollution and resource starvation.
120000th consecutive month with above average temperatures

Yeah, and Hitler believed in Jesus. Idiots.
so we're pretty much fucked in the future right?
Eh the next generation will fix this.
So after 326 months, wouldn't this be considered normal?
Only on the logic that if you get cancer when you're 30, by the you're 40 it's 'considered' normal.
