I only used this source because it was the only one I could find. Inside the source is the 60 Minutes episode containing the report. The following text is from the episode.
They are calling themselves "The 99'ers" - people who have exhausted their unemployment compensation and still can't find a job. CBS profiles this group of out of work Americans between the ages of 40-65 and shows why the stated unemployment rate of 9.5% is a mirage: The economic jam we're in has topped even the Great Depression in one respect: never have we had a recession this deep with a recovery this flat. Unemployment has been at nine and a half percent or above for 14 months. Congress did something that it has never done before - it extended unemployment benefits to 99 weeks. That cost more than $100 billion, a huge expense for a government in debt. But now, for many Americans 99 weeks have passed and there's still no job in sight. Some have taken to calling themselves the "99ers."
eek
Unemployment is a real problem, especially right now. It breeds a lot of unnecessary criminals.
Incoming "It's all obamas fault, he hasn't fixed shit yet, he's useless" posts.
Incoming "It's all obamas fault, he hasn't fixed shit yet, he's useless" posts.
Was this REALLY needed? Other then to start a shit storm?
He can't really do anything, its out of his hands. The only thing we can hope for right now is an event that will cause everybody to go back to work. But last time this happened, back in the 30s, the thing that pulled us out was World War 2. Lets just hope that isn't what we need to recover. I think the stimulus was Obama's form of a "New Deal". It keeps us up, but it won't fix it.
Was this REALLY needed? Other then to start a shit storm?
Lets see.. Yeah. Because when Ridge comes in here, and he will, he's going to blame ALL of it on Obama. I didn't know you got reasonable? I'm... glad to see this.
I could have told you that.
Oh man, that one lady I can't remember her name predicted that another World War would happen in <5 years :ohdear:

But the politicians in DC now continue to exacerbate it. The biggest complaint is that they keep hiding the numbers. Saying only so many people are filing for unemployment. The rest have already used up their benefits, and cannot apply anymore. [editline]26th October 2010[/editline]
He can't really do anything, its out of his hands. That is no longer the case, as all the stuff we use now is already built, or is built by computerized assembly lines. Another war wouldn't help. If another big war happened, and a draft was instituted, it would certainly lessen the unemployment rate, but only temporarily.
I fail to even figure how war would even remotely be a good idea.
Well, I mean apart from global destruction, thermonuclear holocaust, and worldwide economic collapse, it certainly wouldn't help.
That is, assuming we used a nuclear option. But if we did, unemployment would certainly no longer be an issue... But then we need to worry about a mine shaft gap...
That is, assuming we used a nuclear option. But if we did, unemployment would certainly no longer be an issue... But then we need to worry about a mine shaft gap...
Right because sending off millions of people to go die is better than having them employed.
Right because sending off millions of people to go die is better than having them employed.
In a nuclear war, you wouldn't have to send people off to die. The death will be brought to you!
In a nuclear war, you wouldn't have to send people off to die. The death will be brought to you!
Do I have to leave a tip for the shitty service? Or is it added to my bill?
No, it's not. The Great Depression was 25% or so.
Uhhh, all of the economic state of the country studies is done by non partisan people. Obama isn't sitting in his Oval Office fudging numbers to make it seem less severe than it is.
Jobs want experience, impossible to get experience without a job. Perfect and infallible logic.

They are not counting people who are still unemployed, but no longer have the benefits available to them... Can't get credit without having a loan, can't get a loan without having credit.
You guys should end the war on drugs. [editline]26th October 2010[/editline] I think that would help more than you suspect.
Oh man, that one lady I can't remember her name predicted that another World War would happen in <5 years :ohdear:
are you actually considering that seriously
I agree. It's nothing but a waste of money, and only hurts people back home with increased crime. Ending the war on drugs, I mean.
You don't think the people want it to end? It's something like 70% of the US thinks the war on drugs is a waste of time and resources. In fact, they KNOW it is a waste of time and resources, but those who hold the money, hold the power.
Incoming "It's all obamas fault, he hasn't fixed shit yet, he's useless" posts.
It's not all Obama's fault and there's not a whole he could've done but still, it's true that he's ignored our financial situation and most of what he's done so far has been to please voters rather than actually being for the good of our country. He's certainly not the worst by a mile, but all in all, I've considered his presidency so far a failure.
I've considered his presidency so far a failure.
and you base this on...?
and you base this on...?
Read the line above. I mean you can disagree with it being a failure, but it's hard to argue that it's been a successful one when we're in the same situation. This is why I'm probably not voting next go around because the republican candidates seem to be half retarded and the democratic ones that might actually have a brain in their heads don't seem to have any interest in doing us any good or I don't agree with their ideals.
ITS ALL OBAMAS FAULT HE FORCED PEOPLE TO LEAVE THEIR JOBS BECAUSE HES AN EVIL MEXICAN MOOSLIM -average teabagger
I fail to even figure how war would even remotely be a good idea.
it (well it used to anyway) make money. its strange though that we can find ways to make money off of killing our selves but yet cant find some way to make money off of giving the homeless homes

He brought through the stimulus, tried to get financial reform through, got some financial advisers who know what they are doing, what more do you want? He can only devote so much of his attention to something because there's no point in giving any more.
