Battle of the Nations Live Stream - Historical Medieval Battles

The Battle of the Nations has been going on the last few days. It's where groups of fellows from across the world compete in a tournament in full-plate armour, with blunted weapons and lots of fighting.

It's a fairly new sport, and was largely popularised in Eastern Europe. Really I've only been following it for about 3 years since it's become more popular in Western Europe and beyond. There was even a documentary on BBC Three about the first British team competing in the tournament, so that encouraged me to start watching these tournaments. The quality of their livestream coverage has improved already in only a year from what I've seen.
A friend of mine and fellow historical reenactor fights in the Dutch bohurt team
How does dmg/kills work?
quote from one of the british fighters to the question of "how do you deal with the heat". "Well, the Spanish blokes are OK with it, but over in Britain it rains all the time so it's a bit difficult for us". Yes lad

Basically if you hit the ground, you're dead
aw man the fighting in actuality seems so limpdick. it always sounds so much cooler when you read about medieval battles. seeing it pan out live, you realise it's just guys slowly wearing down each other's stamina until one is too tired to fight.

Medieval and early medieval fighting has always been largely that, instead of being a Hollywood movie. Either trying to hit the enemy and constantly hitting the shield until they make a mistake, or trying to get the enemy in a position where you can find a weakness in their armor.
They should get rid of the lists. It's kind of lame when half the team are just trying to drag someone off the fence instead of actually fighting.

Yeah, it is a bit of a downside of this format. I'd think of this more along the lines of a tournament, though, rather than actual battles. Other events are more scenario driven.

this would be more interesting if every fight didn't devolve into "try to yank the guy off the fence"

It's still interesting to see them get out of that situation and do almost wrestling-like takedown manoeuvres.
