GOP's Priebus: Reid a 'dirty liar' for claiming to know Romney didn't file taxes August 05, 2012

Republicans on Sunday attacked Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid for purporting that Mitt Romney has not paid taxes in 10 years, with Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus calling the Nevada Democrat a “dirty liar.”
Reid said his information came from an investor in Bain Capital, the company Romney started, and made the accusation Thursday from the Senate floor. He has yet to offer evidence to support the claim and even has said he's not sure it's true. Reid made the claim to a reporter earlier in the week.
“I’m not going to respond to a dirty liar who hasn't filed a single page of tax returns himself,” Priebus said on ABC’s “This Week” about Reid’s claim. “He complains about people with money, but lives in the Ritz Carlton here down the street.”
Earlier in the show, Democratic National Committee Chairman Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz defended Reid’s right to make such statements.
“Everyone is responsible for saying things they say they have information on,” said Wasserman Schultz, D-Florida. “Reid says he has a credible source.”
GOP Sen. Lindsey Graham also on Sunday said he thinks Reid is "lying about his statement of knowing something about Romney."
Reid is just "making things up" to divert the campaign from "the real issues," he said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”
Romney on Friday said he has paid taxes “every year, and a lot of taxes.”
“Harry is simply wrong, and that’s why I’m so anxious for him to give us the names of the people who have put this forward," Romney said. "Harry Reid really has to put up or shut up.”
Reid spokesman Adam Jentleson, said in an email that "it's clear Mitt Romney is hiding something, and the only way for him to clear this up is to be straight with the American people and release his tax returns."

I still don't see how much of a big deal it is for Romney to prove Reid's allegations are false unless he actually has something to hide.
Namecalling is for children Mr. Romney. Now please, show us your returns to prove your point.
" Romney said. "Harry Reid really has to put up or shut up.”
That's why I love this whole Harry Reid story, the delicious irony of having to prove that someone's lying about something you have yet to prove yourself.
“Harry is simply wrong, and that’s why I’m so anxious for him to give us the names of the people who have put this forward," Romney said. "Harry Reid really has to put up or shut up.”
So much hypocrisy. So very much.
Prove he's lying Mitt
Ah the innocence of children, always in some silly argument about something trivial.
Oh wait no these are fully grown adults in positions of power within the worlds most powerful nation doing that.
Seeing all this political news is pretty taxing. Romney should just release his forms.
For fuck's sake just release the papers you stupid fucker.

No shit? Must be the first time that's ever happened in a political campaign.
It doesn't matter what Reid said, the burden of proof lies on Romney. If he'd just show people his taxes there would no longer be an issue. Unless he's truly got something to hide.
if romney not paying all his taxes stops you from voting for him then god forbid you find out about his actual policies

It's just a nail for his coffin. As soon as people realize he hasn't payed his taxes his campaign is over.

I don't think so, people were saying that about Obama and his birth certificate, but then again, that was horrifically retarded.
Also, your avatar is amazing.

Hold it! Reid himself has doubt's about his source. shouldn't he have the full confidence of what he's accusing Romney of before making the accusation?
I mean unless he has definitive proof and is able to present it, I'd say the burden is on him, not Romney.
Either that, or Obama would have to produce his transcripts from when he went to Harvard.
Cause Priebus is a pinnacle of someone knowing what they're talking about.

And tax evasion is unamerican.

I know right, its like that hissy fit people always throw in religion threads when someone says God is real unless anyone else can prove he's not.
Its called the burden of proof, and its on Reid, not Romney.

The problem is Romney is trying to make Reid prove it when he himself could just show us his tax returns. I'm pretty sure every president prior showed theirs, so why not he show his?
And don't fucking compare this with Harvard transcripts, this is an entirely different situation.
The burden of proof lies with the person who made the charges.
That said Romney's "put up or shut up" rhetoric is the definition of irony and further proves my hypothesis that Republicans are born without the irony gene.

It's not like Romney not releasing his tax returns was an issue before Reid said any of this, Oh wait, it was and I was just being sarcastic for half a sentence.
And no it is not comparable to Obama's birth certificate or college transcripts. One is expecting a candidate to do what literally every candidate ever does, and the other is appealing to the institutionalized racism that pervades the Right in this country.
This whole thing just feels like a repeat of the GOP whining about seeing Obama's REAL birth certificate, and it'll turn out the same way too.
The only difference is that Romney shouldn't have any problem releasing his tax returns if he doesn't have anything to hide but the fact that he isn't tells me he's hiding something he's sure would most likely kill his chances at the presidency. Of course he doesn't HAVE to release them but honestly, he's campaigning for President of the United States, if he can't be open with us about his tax returns, how can anyone trust him to be open about anything else.
The presidency requires strength and integrity, Romney is just in it because he can be, he is NOT presidential material and frankly this election is a solid for Obama and I'm sure the GOP is just holding all the really good candidates for 2016.

On a side note: If Romney is elected in November, I'm going to laugh my ass off when the economy continues to tank under him and Republicans will say he's inheriting Obama's mess and he's trying so hard but those darn Democrats are holding this country hostage.
Conservatives will give Romney a free pass on whatever he does that they would normally call for Obama's impeachment on and Liberals today are giving Obama a free pass on what they would've called Bush out for. This is all just silly pandering and this election means NOTHING. I highly recommend looking at third parties because if this is the best this country can do, I am not impressed. Both "main" candidates are weak flip-floppers who only obey the money they get behind closed-doors and turn the American public against each other by using the false dichotomy of Republican vs. Democrat to distract us while they run off with all the money.

Had this long post written up, I'll summarize it.
This is a perfect example of the age old religion argument:
"I say that this person existed/event happened, and you can't possibly prove that he wasn't/it didn't happen, so it must be true."
Reid is doing it to Romney just as Romney is doing it to everyone else. Reid wants us to believe his sources, while Romney wants us to believe him without willingly releasing tax returns.
If Romney has nothing to hide, then reveal the tax returns. Every other nominee and President did the same.
Its like the birther argument, if Obama had to release a transcript that shows that he was born in Hawaii, then Romney has to prove that Reid was lying and show the tax returns. But this argument is stupid.
It is like asking Bachmann for her college transcript if she was the nominee. Its a stupid argument and shouldn't be a major issue.

Reid's just trying to get Romney to release his tax records
$10 says Romney's tax returns get destroyed in a mysterious fire. I can see this happening if he gets forced into showing more of his tax returns, but if he has nothing to hide this shouldn't be a problem.

yes this is definitely how things work at the IRS where they apparently don't keep backups
Reid was a childish dick.
But Romney should just release his tax returns.
