• HS Double barrel "Mad Max" shotgun Review

The sawn-off double barrel shotgun has been a rugged, zombie killing, gang fighting, apocalypse surviving weapon for quite a while now, and has been featured in many movies and video games. This is HS' (Haw San) first and only attempt at making an airsoft version. First, the pictures: Build Quality: The build quality of this weapon is absolutely fantastic. There isnt a single plastic part on the whole weapon, the grips are made of real rosewood, and the barrel and and trigger mechanism is all metal. Even the sights are metal. The weapon is very comfortable to hold and was a slight bit bigger than I expected it to be. Firing it one handed isnt exactly as easy as I figured it would be. The sights are easy to use and offer good eye relief, dispite the fact that you really wont need them. There were two orange tips inserted into the front of the weapon. I saw inserted because they were literally popped into the rubber barrel spacers. They came out very easily, and werent even glued in. Reliability: Sadly, this is where you can tell the weapon was made by a toy company. The entire firing mechanism is based on the shells, much like an M203, which was good for me, because I understand how they work. These shells however, are NOT like mini M203 rounds, they operate on a very primitive and somewhat unreliable system that is very hard on the gas seals of the shells. The fill valves were the first issue, albeit the easiest to fix. They were leaking pretty badly for about 5 seconds after a fill, but then the pressure got down a reasonable level, and they stopped leaking. To solve this, I put a very small o-ring in the recessed part of the fill valve (pics later). This largely solved the problem, and improves the shells performance. Unfortunatly, one of my shells leaked out of the bottom, near the firing button. After some inspection, It would appear to be a torn or missing o-ring on the inside of the shell. The crappy part is, unlike an M203 shell, there isnt any obvious way to get the shell mechanism apart, so I cant acsess it to fix it. So I have one busted shell. LAME. Performance: The performance actually isnt bad on these things after some tweaking. With 3 shots in each shell, the BBs went about as far as they would coming out of one of the UTG tri-barrel shotguns, but with much more spread. With 7 BBs, they went about half that distance, but the BBs went EVERYWHERE. Excellect for a zombie game, especiallyu as a last ditch, point blank weapon. With 3 BBs, the power seems to be quite high, just judging by eye, the BBs are probably somewhere in the high 300s. With 7 BBs, the power is quite a bit lower, right around M203 range, somewhere in the mid to lower 200s. Once again, perfect fpr a close quarters zombie game. Overall, this thing is very asthetically pleasing, but suffers in the reliability department. As for performance, its good for a zombie game, or a gas-weapons-only type thing, but definatly not suited for normal combat.
Looks very awesome, whats the cost of extra shells?
Looks very awesome, whats the cost of extra shells?
Lots. IE: 40$ for 2 Hence my anger for having a busted one.

Looks really cool... shame about the shell.
