Put your stomping boots on! Toho is making a new Godzilla film.
TOHO is producing a new work of its iconic film monster Godzilla for release throughout Japan in 2016. It will be the first Godzilla film by TOHO since 2004's Godzilla Final Wars (pictured right). According to the Cinema Today website, the "legendary" Japanese franchise is undergoing a revival, in response to the heightened fan support after Gareth Edwards and Legendary Pictures' Hollywood Godzilla film became a worldwide hit.
I hope it gets a western cinematic release.
The legacy will NEVER die.
Glad to see Toho sees the value in creating their stuff while Hollywood does their own thing.
Hopefully we get a less pointless main character this time
Godzilla was great but there was a lot wrong with it I feel
I wonder if he'll come back with a new design? Like, 2000-ish design or something, or maybe something closer to what legendary made?
Where's zillamaster at?

From a fan and legacy standpoint, I wouldn't be surprised if they went with a Heisei (80s-90s) design, such as

MogeGoji (Godzilla vs SpaceGodzilla, Godzilla vs Destoroyah)

BatoGoji (Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla II)
These are more classical suits. The thing is, about Tokusatsu, is that it takes a lot of work to get the suits to look right when moving. With CG, you don't have to worry about the set and it's interaction with the character, all you need to worry is if it looks good. Tokusatsu, on the other hand, requires lots of time and dedication with placement of the setpieces and the suit itself.
Most Godzilla suits, especially in the Heisei Era, were large since it actually gave the actor a lot of unrestricted mobility in sacrifice for some discomfort (mainly heat).
If Toho were to go with a more LegendGoji design, I'd be curious as to how they'd pull it off. The thing I liked the most about Mr. Edward's film is the fact that Godzilla acted like a Tokusatsu piece. When [sp]fighting the MUTO pair in San Francisco[/sp] his movements resembled those of Kenpachiro Satsuma (Godzilla suit actor in the Heisei series). He didn't look totally animalistic, but he didn't look like a goofy person either. Though CG, I felt that the 2014 Godzilla really carried a lot of the weight (no pun intended) that was given to it with such a title.
tl;dr: I'm not exact about the design, but I'm pretty sure I'm within a close margin of "right"

I doubt we'll get a western cinematic release. This would confuse a lot of people who don't know anything about Godzilla, other than just watching Legendary's version.
Might even be in the contract that Legendary holds the rights to western cinematic releases of Godzilla.
But it doesn't mean we can't watch, they may even do a straight-to-dvd release in america after it's release in Japan.

They did that with a lot of the Millennium films. Godzilla vs Megaguirus, Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla, Godzilla: Tokyo SOS and Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All Out Attack! were DVD releases in the west, but with full dubbing.
After being disappointed by Legendary's Godzilla, hearing this is a new godsend. Please return the rubber suits!

They got the creature completely right, but focusing on a bland, boring military soldier for 80% of the film was so stupid.

Exactly why I was disappointed, should be renamed 'Adventures of the EOD Specialist - guest starring Godzilla'

I would have rather it made Dr. Serizawa and Graham the main characters, since they could have been way more fleshed out.
[sp]Monarch[/sp] is such a cool concept that they really had an awesome chance to expand on.

Why hasn't this happened yet?
