• Blizzard Admits: Diablo 3 May Not Meet The Fans’ Expectations

Blizzard has once again spoke about the imminent release of Diablo III through the voice of its community manager who said that the fans should “lower their expectations.” Bashiok said that the game will be amazing, but the biggest fans must have certainly build up even greater expectations, and Blizzard might not be able to meet their demands. The community manager admitted that he is worried that Diablo 3 will not “meet the expectations people have built up for themselves.” This is a “natural” worry because the series has a lot of fans and it will be hard to please them all. Bashiok said that he was given the task to manage the expectations of the people therefore he urges users to “stop thinking about how awesome this game could be.” While we don’t have any doubts that Diablo 3 will be an amazing game, we must admit that Bashiok is right and that the fans must not question him for these words. After a great movie, song, work of art, or game, people tend to set the expectations too high for the sequel, and even though the sequel will be very good, they may treat it like a poor one. Bashiok added that he is aware it may be Blizzard’s fault for this situation because the development has been very extended. In such cases, people tend to build up their expectations, and this may hurt their view on the game. The community manager even said that it would be better for the people to lower their expectations, to buy and enjoy the game because “everything will be just fine.” He added that Diablo’s developers will be very disappointed to find out that the users will unleash their “wrath” if the game will not meet their demands. Recently, Bashiok announced that the Diablo 3 release date is Q2 2012, and that Blizzard will stick to the deadline. Well, we must say that it’s definitely Blizzard’s fault that we built up some high expectations because Bashiok repeatedly said that Diablo III will be released when it will be “perfect” and the developers will decide when is that.

http://www.geeksailor.com/blizzard-diablo-3-expectations/ doesn't surprise me really
Well, at least they're honest about it, unlike most developers. Well, Bashiok at least.
What the fuck happened to the layout
I remember right before Spore came out, Will Wright said sorta the same thing.
Well, at least they're honest about it, unlike most developers. Well, Bashiok at least. WAIT FUCK HOW DID THIS HAPPEN
Bashiok's gon git fired.
Unrealistic expectations can do that.
nothing they do could meet people's expectations that's just how things work
I love his comparisons. He's basically saying "Yeah, well, you're expecting it to be good like the previous ones. Yeah, stop expecting that, it won't happen."
Of course they aren't going to meet the unrealistic expectations of many fans. Does that mean it's going to be the next DNF? No. No matter how good a game is, there will always be someone who is disappointed because they set their expectations too high.

In a somewhat subtle manner.
community manager yea ok
You should never expect a game to meet all of your expectations. Yeah, there are some that would seem like a "given", but all in all you shouldn't put way too much hype in a game because if you do and the game is a total flop, you'll only be disappointed. But if you think the game is going to be "ok" then it may just blow your mind and be completely awesome. It's much better to be "I told you this game would suck" rather than "Wow I expected a lot more out of this game". So I guess what I'm trying to say is, it may not be 100% the developers fault for this, but then again I really don't know anything about Diablo 3 nor have I played any other Diablo so take this how you want. It probably doesn't help that I'm posting this at midnight when I had a long day at work too.
There is a difference between saying "There is too much hype around this." and saying "It's not going to be good." In a somewhat subtle manner.
It was obviously a sarcastic remark on the Blizzard forums.
What the fuck happened to the layout
Tables happened. It's an unnecessary plague on Facepunch.
It's already obvious that nothing will compare to Diablo 2, I still go back to that game every now and again and make a guy and level them from 1 to 70 or so just for the hell of it. That game is probably one of the greatest games ever made, I've been playing it for at least 10 years on and off. Diablo 3 could very well be a great game but I'd still rather go back to Diablo 2 any day. I just wish it didn't become flooded with shitbots that join, spam 10 lines of chat and then leave x100. You shouldn't have to level lock a game just to prevent that and it made me so sad when I returned to D2 to see what it had become after so many years.
How are people not picking this up as sarcastic banter as a joke between the Dev's and the community? because it seems really fucking obvious. (also, considering i've played atleast 20 hours of the beta, i might be slightly bias.)
Steps to making a successful Diablo sequel: 1. Copy Diablo 2 2. Make it 3d 3. Add more loot 4. Add in the ability to have more than two actions mapped at once I am going to be pi-issed if they somehow screwed this up
I remember right before Spore came out, Will Wright said sorta the same thing.
Diablo 3 = the Spore of 2012 I can see it now [editline]27th February 2012[/editline]
Does nobody see the huge error here? The guy who posted that is a community manager. AKA, forum moderator. He has absolutely nothing to do with the development of the game, nor is he in PR. What he says about the game's expectations should be taken with a grain of salt--if not just as much as any other fan awaiting the game.
Community managers for games are a part of the PR department, they are not volunteer moderators. He's an ACTUAL employee at Blizzard.
God spore was so damn disappointing. *flying along, hunting for Earth* "OHGODWEBEGETTINGINVADEDHELPMEHELPMEOHGOD" 'But I'm halfway across the fucking galaxy!' "HEEEEEEEEEEEEEELPNAOOOO" 'DEFEND YOUR OWN GODDAMN SELF' "TRADE SANCTIONS AWAY" AAAAND the aggressors turn out to be a race that I UPLIFTED FROM THE FUCKING TRIBAL STAGE OUT OF MERCY. YOU LITTLE FUCKS. and when I beat them back to their world? They attack again 5 minutes later. When I exterminate them? the one they were attacking trade sanctions me and threatens war. FUCK YOU ALL. JUST. FUCK YOU ALL.
It's already obvious that nothing will compare to Diablo 2
Really? 'cause I hate that game. Nothing compares to D1 for me.
Since when has painfully sarcastic video game message board moderator posts been seen as news headlines?
TBH with between Dota 2 and Torchlight 2, I don't see Blizzard having a as good as a success in the future as they have had before. They no longer offer a unique product. Or at least the the LoL and Torchlight players would say.

that article is fucking stupid and so is the title for the thread. this isn't blizzard admitting the game isn't going to be as good as previous Diablo's or something.
thats ok blizzard we diddnt expect it to be
I still don't see how D3 isn't out. It's going to be a game that could've came out in 2009 by the looks of it.
