Found it pretty interesting. Strange how much it's changed I think the plane is a DC-8 Bonus:
First one has embedded disabled. But that music on the second video is beeeeutiful
I miss Mcdonnell Douglas, they just don't build aircraft the same anymore.
I always think of this when I think of 60s airplanes.
bro did you see that food I literally have to pay out the ass for a fucking slice of pizza on the plane as if airfare wasn't enough
bro did you see that food I literally have to pay out the ass for a fucking slice of pizza on the plane as if airfare wasn't enough
you'll get it a lot cheaper these days at the expense of having no space to put your limbs [editline]2nd October 2013[/editline]
First one has embedded disabled. Look at the damn planes back then (and quite a bit before) DC-3 Both of these two were around in the late 40's to mid-60's I believe, in some incarnation. There was such awesome diversity in planes back then, and they all looked so neat and sexy

I haven't flown on a plane since I was three. To those who have flown recently, what's it like compared to the first video in the OP?
First one has embedded disabled. But that music on the second video is beeeeutiful
I wish I could find a big collection of 1950's/60's informational video music. There is something calming about it.
Look how much leg room they have. God damn.
Dem intakes.
Oh I know it is the coolest commercial airliner design I think. Those intakes look so great
How come it still takes the same time today? Passenger airlines still go 500-600 mph, how come faster ones aren't produced? Fuel cost I'm guessing?
How come it still takes the same time today? Passenger airlines still go 500-600 mph, how come faster ones aren't produced? Fuel cost I'm guessing?
Has mostly to do with the most efficient cruising speeds, and yes, fuel cost. Also, planes that go faster have to be engineered to stricter tolerances, use more complex materials and manufacturing, and are commonly harder to be maintained. Hopefully, ram/scramjets should fix the issue of maintenance and fuel costs.
That can't be a real airport. Where's the security gates? Where's the x-ray machines? Where's the cameras and patrol dogs? Why does everything look comfortable? Why are they not getting harassed by some asshole with a badge?
I haven't flown on a plane since I was three. To those who have flown recently, what's it like compared to the first video in the OP?
100% not like it is in this video

Holy fuck that looks really enjoyable, just the whole atmosphere seems more relaxed and laid back compared to today's flights.
I haven't flown on a plane since I was three. To those who have flown recently, what's it like compared to the first video in the OP?
Not even close, up till the 70's all you need was a ticket to get on the plane, and also you could smoke
I haven't flown on a plane since I was three. To those who have flown recently, what's it like compared to the first video in the OP?
the best description i can give is that it seems like airports are designed to make you as umcomfortable and uneasy as possible, and also give you the feeling that something's always about to explode somewhere in the building when you actually get in the plane its a little better but tbh only when you get nice crew members which is something ive only experienced like once or twice
Flying for the first time was something I thought was going to be some amazing experience Then it turned out the only interesting thing about it was seeing the clouds from above, otherwise it was a rather boring experience that was made all the more unpleasant because the girl I had to sit next to smelled of fish.
Not even close, up till the 70's all you need was a ticket to get on the plane, and also you could smoke
The whole idea that at one time an airport was an extremely open place completely blows my mind.
[t]http://sagar.se/images/concorde.jpg[/t] I know it's not in the same time period (16 years later) but hot damn I love me some concorde action
The whole idea that at one time an airport was an extremely open place completely blows my mind.
I miss the days when you could walk right up to the gates to wait with or for someone, and what sucks more is most of the food places are past security in a lot of the airports I have been to. There is this awesome restaurant in the Anchorage airport but it is past security so you can't go there unless you are taking a flight somewhere...

I got to sit in a passenger plane from around this era at an airshow once, and to this day I have not sat in a more comfortable seat. Beatae vetus airplane~
Shame they kept blowing up
I only know of one case where it blew up, flight 4590. Were there more?
