A Michigan City-area man reportedly survived with just a few broken bones after being struck by a Chicago-bound Amtrak train traveling 110 mph Friday. Darryle See, 22, was alert and talking to police after being thrown 20 feet from the tracks near U.S. 12 east of Michigan City, Ind., according to LaPorte County Police Maj. John Boyd. See was listening to music with headphones while walking west on the tracks around 11:45 a.m. Friday, officials said. Police said conductors claim they sounded the train’s horn multiple times before the emergency brakes were applied and See was hit by the locomotive.Train officials said they were traveling at 110 mph at the time of the accident. 'I survived a 110mph train crash, wanna fuck?'
pretty sure the only thing hell be picking up is his own limbs hahaha
Darryle See, 22, was alert and talking to police after being thrown 20 feet from the tracks near U.S. 12 east of Michigan City, Ind., according to LaPorte County Police Maj. John Boyd. See had what appeared to be a broken arm and was bleeding, but was sitting up and was able to tell them what happened. Family told the Northwest Indiana Times that See was at a hospital in South Bend, Ind. on Saturday with “one or two” fractures to his pelvis and injuries to his neck, but said his injuries were non-life threatening.
How is that even possible?

Hmm, kinda sounds like this
How is that even possible?
I'm suspecting the media is overestimating the train's speed.
I'm suspecting the media is overestimating the train's speed.
probably. no idea what train he actually got hit by by but I'm assuming it was the capitol limited line just based on the location of the incident. the capitol limited line run both the P40DC (which has a max speed of 103 mph) and the P42DC (max speed 110). My guess is he got hit by a P42DC and the rail operator said "yeah it could have been going up to 110 mph" or something similar. amtrak runs 79mph through most corridors though so I'm guessing that's how fast he got hit not that 79mph shouldn't have killed him though, 79mph at 133000 tons plus the weight of the cars and passengers is no joke
I'm suspecting the media is overestimating the train's speed.
Or maybe physics took the day off. Like with that women who was the sole survivor in a plane crash from 30,000 feet.
It seems that he didn't visually perceive that coming.

i've been through ramming speed and now look at me I'm still fine do you wanna try?
Relaxed bodies can take a SHITTON more force than a braced one. If he wasn't expecting it, or just went limp, I can see this. Still hella impressive, but not unprecedented.
I'm amazed that he was only thrown 20ft.. That just seems too small, I've seen people get hit by cars at 60km/h get thrown further..
It simply cannot of been a direct hit the math just doesn't work, there is too much momentum. At 110mph and a 20 foot deceleration space the Gs would kill a person if applied directly to their bodily organs.

That being said it still doesn't exactly add up right.
Hey atleast the man is alive.
he is the luckiest person alive i'm jealous
He's not as lucky as all of the people who haven't been hit by a train.
Most likely was 110mph before the emergency brakes were hit. After all, who exactly looks down to check their speed gauge just before they're about to hit a man?
Most likely was 110mph before the emergency brakes were hit. After all, who exactly looks down to check their speed gauge just before they're about to hit a man?
I do, every time.
Most likely was 110mph before the emergency brakes were hit. After all, who exactly looks down to check their speed gauge just before they're about to hit a man?
they don't run 110 on that route, they were going 79.
Did the train make it out unharmed?
He probably got side-swiped as he was getting out of the way, rather than full impact down the center line of the tracks

Must have been listening to some really loud music to not hear the horn. Shouldn't he have felt it coming too?

Christ that's metal; I thought he'd he paralysed or end up in a coma, but walking away with just a few broken bones? That's just too fucking lucky.
