After over 40 years of secrecy, the real cause of death of Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, the first human in space, has been made public. Prominent Russian cosmonaut Aleksey Leonov reveals the truth behind the events of that tragic day.
For over 20 years Aleksey Leonov, the first man to conduct a spacewalk in 1965, has been struggling to gain permission to disclose details of what happened to the legendary Yuri Gagarin in March 1968.
I've always read that they were suspicious of another pilots error causing him to crash, not really surprising it is true.
;_;7
i still need to get my garagin tattoo booked
I want to know who was the asshole that caused him to spiral to his death, he probably didn't pay for his crime either.

Imagine knowing you were responsible for the death of someone else for 40 years without being able to tell anyone about it.
At least it wasn't on a secret Soviet moon mission that ended with him being eaten by the Xenomorphs on the dark side.
In all seriousness though tis a tragic fact of the space race and military testing that such brave and talented pilots died in droves to test their vehicles.

Even worse is the fact that this was not caused by an equipment malfunction, like so many other disasters. Both Gagarin's plane and the plane of the unnamed test pilot were functioning properly, it's just that the latter pilot had somehow misunderstood the directions he was given before flight and was doing maneuvers at low altitude. By the sound of it, it seems like he didn't even realize that he had caused another plane to crash, the weather being so bad that visibility was impossible.

Um, the way I was thinking about it, is the that guy who was responsible for his death didn't want anyone to know about it and they covered it up for him, but what you said seems much more logical now.
I take back what I've said...
I originally dismissed your way of thinking because I didn't think of any other reason for them to cover something like this up.

shit happened and it was covered up?
I didn't know he was dead. Shame, though I can't imagine the life expectancy for a Cosmonaut was very high.

What? You're crazy.
Moon Rocks are more believable.
