What episode was this? And do they still serve grilled salad?
that's not even a salad
that's literally just a grilled head of lettuce
I've actually had grilled romaine hearts once or twice, as like an appetizer kinda thing at a cook-off. Stick some olive oil on there, some parmesan, and you have a tasty and quick appetizer for your guests at your next BBQ.

Here's Alton Brown's take on the idea if you still think it's nuts. I'm frankly disappointed in Ramsay for scoffing at the idea because it's a totally valid concept, even if this restaurant's execution is terrible.

yes i'm sure the chefs at your local cook-off know more about cooking than a mutliple michelin star chef
if you dont know who alton brown is dont even talk to me tia
i dont know who he is, but i hope he and gordon ramsay have a fight to the death over grilled lettuce

He had never seen it before, and at first glance it's a very weird concept. Do you expect him to instantly think "Wow, what an amazing idea!" when he sees it for the first time?
That has to be the laziest appetizer I've ever seen.
nvm he edited it out
I went to a fancy restaurant in Tennessee and for an appetizer they served me a sliced quarter of a iceberg lettuce and just drizzled ranch on it like it was art.

You ever taken apart a romaine lettuce before? Ramsey even makes this clear, if you have not removed the butt, you have not cleaned it. There's always some dust or even bugs deep in roman lettuce you have to clean out before considering to serve it lol

fancy restaurants are such bs
I've never seen this and I thought I've seen every episode of Kitchen Nightmares out there, UK and US

yea thats why i said the execution was terrible...the hearts are fine once it's properly prepared and thats what you use
[editline]31st March 2016[/editline]
is that not obvious
it's like every shitty restaurant on this show has an arrogant idiot chef
he even says it so classically, "if he likes my food we'll get along fine!!"

how do you properly 'clean' them while preparing them to serve them whole pre tell
(u cant stop eating whole lettuce u donk)
what are you talking about
you cut the butt off, seperate the leaves, wash each leaf, and proceed like that
[t]http://comps.canstockphoto.com/can-stock-photo_csp8664403.jpg[/t]
shit should look like this
im not saying grill a whole head of lettuce thats fucking retarded
i mean there's a reason why these restaurants are failing, but you'd think someone would look up proper procedure for how to serve lettuce, much less grilling it, before they work as a chef there
but then that can be attributed to a failure of staff and owners not paying attention and/or giving a damn, too
I've had grilled romaine at a pretty nice restaraunt with some spices and a little bit of dressing and it was delicious

just drizzle some sauce on it and call it fancy. Don't forget to make it overpriced.
Christ Kevin get it together.

maybe kevin feels so invisible he didnt think gordon ramsay would notice him

stands to reason that any chef who tries weird things like this that don't work but keeps serving them would be an arrogant idiot
Goddamn it ease it with the sound effects and tense music. It annoys me how many sound effects and "thrilling" music the US version has while the UK version of Kitchen Nightmares has nothing of that.
what's wrong with the chef's head ?? It looks weird, almost as if it's a fake head + wig. What on earth...

Dude's a total asshole too. Dunno if any of you have seen this full episode but iirc dude is fresh out of culinary school and hasn't worked in a proper, full blown professional kitchen before but thinks he's the hottest shit and leagues ahead of Ramsay. Whole episode was bonkers.
