Sorry, I didn't realize how old this was. Is it possible if a mod could close and drop dead the thread? My Mistake this article was from October 6th 2016, Sorry I thought this was new since I had only just heard about this. http://globalnews.ca/news/2987976/october-declared-islamic-heritage-month-in-ontario/
TORONTO — October will now officially be recognized as Islamic Heritage Month in Ontario after the legislature unanimously passed an act Thursday. It began as an NDP private members’ bill, and party leader Andrea Horwath says it’s an opportunity to celebrate and learn about the history of Islamic culture.

Canadian Islamic History Month has been officially recognized federally since 2007. Farheen Khan, with the International Development and Relief Foundation, joined Horwath at the legislature and says it’s important to profile and highlight the positive contributions of Muslims. The news comes as Mirza Masroor Ahmad, the current and fifth caliph and leader of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, is slated to be in Toronto on Friday for a three-day Islamic convention. I mean we have Native American History Month, Pacific Islander History Month, Hispanic History Month and of course Black History Month here in the US so this doesn't seem all that insane [editline]25th January 2017[/editline] And before anyone goes "B-b-buh islam not race???", it says Islamic culture, which in many cases, has become the main culture of those from predominantly Muslim areas
That's cool

Neat, Glad to hear it. After Stephen Harper tried to win the last federal election by pandering to Islamophobes and the Canadian public threw his administration out on its ass, I think something that'll promote learning and understanding is in order. Because I live in an area of Canada that gets a lot of immigrants, I've worked alongside Canadian Muslims for years. They fully embrace the egalitarian and multicultural nature of our culture, and tend to be very involved in their communities, for the benefit of Canadians of all faiths and backgrounds, not just theirs. Hell, my M.P. is Muslim. About goddamn time they got some positive recognition, especially with the new regime south of the border rising to power.
