Why even make the game pay to win, when you can just demand payments for the gratification itself gameplay is meant to provide?
The worst thing about these kind of games is that they really suck the money out of people who get hooked on their game, I know friends that have literally spend hundreds of pounds on these add-ons which are totally worthless.
Did the RSS feed for his episodes on Escapist stop working? I haven't seen one in my feed for a while, but I'm seeing people post new YouTube eps which come out like a week later.

Scroll down to Jimquisition under Videos. Apparently it is working, but I guess I just didn't notice this episode in my feed last week.
This week's actually just came out today: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/jimquisition/8797-Gamer-Entitlement
I am kind of glad Dungeon Keeper exists.
It's so obtuse and awful with its wait features that more people are aware of how fucking terrible it is. Maybe now that a huge company got caught red handed smaller guys will be less willing to do that.
I'm honestly surprised it's legal to make these kinds of "games". They're advertised through blatant lies and misdirection and employ the sinister levels of money grabbing banned from market shelves, television and film decades ago.
I'm glad he brought up Loadout as an example of a good free-to-play game because, let me tell you,
IT WASN'T ALWAYS LIKE THAT.

I thought that what I heard of Dungeon Keeper mobile was bad enough, but I never actually knew until this video that the game will outright say "DON'T BE STINGY, BUY GEMS TO SPEED THIS UP"
Just saying it's awful treatment of the customer's not only being redundant on my end, but not descriptive enough of how bullshit the entire ordeal is for the consumer.

What was Loadout like before?

Every level, you were given a certain number of... "Upgrade Points", I think they were called? Early parts cost like, seven, but the "improved" parts (second tier and higher) cost ~20. Alternatively, you could buy them for the premium currency, and getting a gun made of all highest tier parts would've taken you basically all the points you get naturally up to at least level 10 if I recall correctly.
