Over 2,000,000 workers strike - 58% of schools fully close

Tens of thousands of people have joined rallies around the UK as a public sector strike over pensions disrupts schools, hospitals and other services.

The action by up to two million public sector staff has closed the majority of UK state schools, and forced hospitals to cancel thousands of operations.
But Prime Minister David Cameron described the strike as a "damp squib".
Unions object to government plans to make their members pay more and work longer to earn their pensions.

At Prime Minister's Questions, Mr Cameron said he thought the government had made a "very reasonable, very fair offer to public sector workers".
"I don't want to see any strikes, I don't want to see schools closed, I don't want to see problems at our borders, but this government has to make responsible decisions," he said.
Earlier, the prime minister's spokesman said a small number of Downing Street staff had gone on strike, while others had been affected by school closures and some staff from the Downing Street policy unit were helping out at the borders.
Speaking from Brussels, Chancellor George Osborne told BBC Breakfast that the "strike is not going to achieve anything" and will only "make our economy weaker and potentially cost jobs".
Labour leader Ed Miliband said he had "huge sympathy" for people whose lives are disrupted by the strike.
But he said he was "not going to condemn the dinner ladies, nurses, teachers who have made the decision to go on strike because they feel they have been put in an impossible position by a government that has refused to negotiate properly".
TUC general secretary Brendan Barber said the public sector was "under attack" by the government, adding that the action was justified.
"With the scale of change the government are trying to force through, making people work much, much longer and get much, much less, that's the call people have made," he said.

You know what else makes the UK economy weaker and could cost jobs, a shit Chancellor.
Where's a good place to emigrate to?
The economy is going under the toilet.
58% of schools closing is not a "damp squib", mister Cameron.
Holy shiet.

Jersey before they stop it from being a tax haven :v:
My class has been cancelled. Not sure whether to yay or nay

With a jobless rate barely reaching 3% on bad years, this place has space for a few Brits.
At first I saw what looked like a NASA flag held by some people striking in my town centre, when the flag was actually fully visible I realised it said "NASWUT"
Didn't Cameron already say "Fuck you people, we don't care"?
And today all I can say is.
What the fuck happened to the BBC site.
Christ, did Cameron ever fuck up. I mean, if he wanted this kind of stuff to go through, doing it all at once is a terrible idea. If he was smart and an asshole, he'd have worked up to this, doing it one part at a time. People would have been irritated, but a strike of this calibre wouldn't likely have been seen.
That being said, cutting their pensions is the main problem I see here. Depending on what retirement age is, I could understand raising it a bit, but don't touch the pensions.

Cameron lives in an ivory tower and couldn't give a fuck what anyone thinks.
My Uni had a little protest today
About 5 lecturers there. It was a pretty poor protest but I strongly agree with what they are protesting about
Aren't they taking the fact that over half the schools in the country shut down a bit too lightly?

Not exactly what he said but pretty much what he meant, what a twat he's essentially digging his own grave and lost any chance of getting reelected.
Jesus christ. Riots fucking everywhere. "It wont get past greece" They said. "It wont get past egypt" They said. Look at the Occupy protests, the british strikes, not to even mention the mass hysteria, war, and revolution in the middle east!
Nerve gas, killer viruses, and general chaos.
What a world...

I've more often started thinking of that one meme picture.
"Can't tell if more aware of current events
Or world just more fucked up"

It's like 1848 all over again.
Everything was going so swimmingly until a few years ago.
I've had enough of this "cutting the deficit" bullshit, it's all just a fucking facade for saying "our generation fucked up, lets make the current generation pay, fuck 'em". The deficit is quantitatively not that bad in comparison with past levels.
The issue that really needs addressing is why a large percentage of the world economy is completely virtual representing nothing tangible in the physical world. That same "economy" is the excuse that is being used to remove the privileges of the many striking today. We also need a real currency system that actually represents value in the physical world, not a belief system.

And those who caused it are getting off scot-free.
Holly shit, lets hope Garry doesn't need an operation any time soon.
My school was one of the only ones to stay open out of everyone i know, although i'm not complaining.

These aren't riots
They need to just stop fucking hiring people in the public sector. We need more AI advances so that the role of government can become more autonomous.

What the fuck? Do you even know what you're talking about? That's such a hair-brained, moronic comment.
