More reason why F1 shouldn't go to Bahrain.. And why Bernie's made a slight mistake.
[h=1]Two members of the Force India team will return home after four colleagues were caught up in clashes between police and protesters on their way back from the Bahrain International Circuit late last night.[/h] The bomb exploded Wednesday night in Bahrain's capital Manama, causing a Force India van with four team members to be delayed in traffic on its way from the Bahrain Grand Prix circuit back to its hotel. No one in the vehicle was hurt and none of the four passengers were Formula One drivers, Force India spokesman Will Hings said. "We were not the target. We just happened upon an incident that was ahead of us, a disruption in the road," Hings said. "Nobody was hurt from our team. We were not targeted directly by Molotov cocktails." Hings said the four team members were back at the track on Thursday, but later told the AP that one of them was leaving the country and heading back to Europe. Hings said another member of the team who was not in the delayed vehicle was also leaving. "I won't be giving any details of their positions or names ... they were just people working for the team," Hings said. "I can't give you any more information other than that they're returning home out of their free choice." Demonstrators in Bahrain have increasingly used firebombs against security forces during the near daily clashes. But Hings declined to comment on whether the team was worried about safety.
Source: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/motorsport/formulaone/9213449/Bahrain-Grand-Prix-2012-Force-India-caught-up-in-firebomb-incident-ahead-of-controversial-Formula-One-race.html An interview by Jake Humphrey towards Bernie, about the Bahrain GP
It would be nice to have a the race, but if team members safety are at risk then letting it go on is a real dick move.
More reason why F1 shouldn't go to Bahrain.. And why Bernie's made a slight mistake.
Not at all. Bahrain is not even remotely close to the upheaval like Libya was or what Syria currently is, I was initially surprised to see they were even caught in the crossfire like this even given the extremely small size of Bahrain. The protests are generally restricted to smaller areas in northern Bahrain and the sizes of the protests that occur are at most about a dozen or two people who get dispersed (without liverounds) pretty swiftly. The Bahrain International Circuit is all the way to the south of Bahrain, absolutely nothing happens at that area due to very few Shi'ites living there I suppose. Either way, Bahrain police is prepared for any attempt of dickfuckery by the protesters should they come anywhere near southern Bahrain. There is an annoying misconception that Bahrain is engulfed in protests (its not, I would've left if it was) and the primary reason it isn't is due to a vast majority still supporting the royal family. I also have tickets and I'll be going to all three races starting tomorrow :)
