• "Get a load of these guys" Japanese Government Plants Anti-Piracy Warnings Inside Fake Downloads
Last year saw a major upgrade in Japan’s anti-piracy legislation in an attempt to shift Internet users away from file-sharing sites and networks and towards the country’s legitimate outlets. But while the change in the law was significant, getting the legal-downloading message to users proved problematic. In response the government and rightsholders are now seeding fake files with anti-piracy messages hidden inside. Ever since the dawn of online file-sharing fake files have proven some of the most annoying pieces of digital data ever to disgrace the Internet. These miserable specimens of unwanted code nearly always find their way onto users’ machines through deception, masquerading as something desirable but turning out to be something utterly unwanted. Only last week TorrentFreak was exposed to blatant spam disguised as documentary subtitles. Malware and virus creators rely on similar techniques in order to deliver their payloads but fortunately we have software for dealing with these kinds of attacker. The same cannot be said about those who pollute file-sharing networks with fakes. This is the country who also had a VN with a DRM that exposed your desktop and personal info for the world to see if you pirated it. Franky, I'm not surprised.
Watch, this is going to cause a torrent of bad feels
Oh i cant wait. "WTFFFFFFFFF MY LOLI TENTICLE HENTAI I HAVE BEEN DOWNLOADING FOR TWO FUCKING DAYS TURNS OUT TO BE THIS SHIT?!!!!!!?!?!?!?!"
Japan has this massive anti-piracy movement right now like if you download something illegal you get major jailtime and stuff. edit: it says it in the article too:
Knowingly downloading and of course uploading files over the Internet that are protected by copyright law without the consent of the owner is illegal copyright infringement. Please stop immediately. Also, from 1 October 2012, downloading content which is known to be available for sale is punishable by a maximum 2-year prison sentence and/or 2,000,000 yen [US$21,000] fine.

Oh i cant wait. "WTFFFFFFFFF MY LOLI TENTICLE HENTAI I HAVE BEEN DOWNLOADING FOR TWO FUCKING DAYS TURNS OUT TO BE THIS SHIT?!!!!!!?!?!?!?!"
do you know what kinds of internet connections japanese have their p2p programs probably can't even display hours
And people say America's bad...
I don't see the problem here. At least it makes more sense than the anti-piracy warnings in legit DVDs.

Instead of doing something funny like Serious Sam 3 or Alan Wake, or something game degrading like ArmA 2 they try to ruin your life. Why did you bring that up when it has nothing to do with this?
its because unlike america, that has tested nukes on vast places with no people, which has caused enough shit, japan has hit two nukes on their homeplaces. also tsunami
we are talking about DRM here
He was referring to the DRM stuff, not America nuking Japan. Why did you bring that up when it has nothing to do with this?
because I'm joking guys, chill D:
Do they actually expect this to do anything other than annoy people making them even less likely to buy something? This is hardly a new idea anyway, fake torrents have been around for a long long time.

Is he really getting angry at the Japanese government because someone might try to illegally download a product and instead get a warning? Is there any legal, legitimate purpose that is being harmed by this campaign? I don't think putting up a few fakes will do much to deter piracy but holy shit I can't even begin to understand the mindset where the government is bad because they're making something illegal a little more inconvenient.

It's not like fakes are new. Even public piracy sites like the bay have trusted uploaders, and are stupidly aggressive about taking down fake content. It doesn't matter how many times you throw something like this at the wall, it's just not going to stick. Private trackers will be completely unaffected, and usenet is never going to give a shit.
