A spokesman for India’s minister of external affairs suggested that a policy brought in by May as home secretary restricting the right of Indian students to stay in the UK after graduation could prove to be a block on any progress.
https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2016/nov/06/india-warns-uk-immigration-policy-wreck-post-brexit-trade-deal i think TM has said she's not going to raise visa quotas in response. As far as I'm aware Britain wants access to protected markets like law and insurance while India wants more students entering the country
So much for finding alternative trade deals to compensate for leaving. It's like they want to scuttle the ship.
Good, Mays policy on students being forced to leave right after graduation is bullshit.
Good, Mays policy on students being forced to leave right after graduation is bullshit.
The fuck is the point in even teaching them if they can't stay, other than exploiting them for cash I guess?
The fuck is the point in even teaching them if they can't stay, other than exploiting them for cash I guess?
I believe the idea was for them to get their education and take their knowledge back to their country.
I believe the idea was for them to get their education and take their knowledge back to their country.
How does that benefit us in any way? This whole situation is backwards as fuck.
How does that benefit us in any way? This whole situation is backwards as fuck.
They pay foreign student university fees and put money into the economy while studying here
How does that benefit us in any way? This whole situation is backwards as fuck.
Especially considering India complains about it too.
They pay foreign student university fees and put money into the economy while studying here
And then if they're allowed to stay longer they might get a job here and continue putting money into the economy for a longer period of time? Oh no!
And then if they're allowed to stay longer they might get a job here and continue putting money into the economy for a longer period of time? Oh no!
that's counter to the point Boilrig was trying to make, it's (allegedly) to encourage skilled workers to stimulate the economy back in India.
that's counter to the point Boilrig was trying to make, it's (allegedly) to encourage skilled workers to stimulate the economy back in India.
Well Boilrig is still saying All Hail the Empire, maybe he thinks that we have a duty to educate the poor low-caste vagabonds of the British Raj and send them back with our superior British knowledge If not, I don't see a reason to demand we educate people but not let them stay. It seems absurd.
