What is a head shop?

A shop is basically a shop that sell's 'legal highs', lights for growing weed, cannabis seeds and other drug paraphernalia.
What are these 'legal highs'?
A 'legal high' or as I prefer, drugs that have not been made illegal yet, are usually chemicals which have psychoactive effects and have not been listed as illegal substances by existing laws. Another term that can also apply here is 'designer drug'.
Why you making this thread then?
Well as some of you are aware, there has been a lot of media attention growing about head shops and their products, specifically at the moment, mephedrone (4-MMC, not 'methadrone' as a lot of people are calling it).

Mephedrone wiki
Mephedrone is a white power/crystals that (IMO!) has effects close to that of ecstasy(MDMA)/cocaine except longer lasting than coke and more speedy than MDMA.
It is sold in shops in capsule or power form as 'bath salts'/'plant feeder' and not for human consumption. This is, obviously, not plant feeder.
In a nutshell mephedrone has taken the legal high market by storm and brought up the question of whether head shops should even exist if they can keep bringing more drugs to the market.
The reason I posted this is because in the last month or so in Ireland, head shops have cropped up in the media( :( ) once again because of mephedrone (The last time being when a man killed himself jumping off a building while tripping on magic mushrooms when they were legal back in 2005). A national debate has begun, but in addition to that, two major (I can vouch for this) head stores in Dublin have been burned down in the past two weeks.

Long story short, Do you think that Head Shops should exist and sell (in a poor form) regulated drugs? Or has justice been done to the owners/customers of these shops by the arsonists? Any Head shop comments appreciated, anyone welcome but if you don't have any experience with drugz please don't be quick to flame.
P.s I think mephedrone is quite a good night out if you take no more than 0.5g, come-downs ain't so bad/other side effects. I don't condone drug usage but do not condemn it either. Also another note on legal highs, most of these chemicals are so new that nobody can be sure on the Long-term effects of use.
I think all drugs should be legal. It isn't the government's job to control what we put in our bodies.
I agree, people don't realise that regulation makes more sense than outlaw. The war on drugs is one that can't be won. People have/can/will continue to take drugs as long as the human species exists.
Instead of metaphorically feeding the man for a day, you give him a metaphorical fishing pole so he can grow pot.
Loopholes!
nnnnnniiiiiiicccccceeee
I think all drugs should be legal. It isn't the government's job to control what we put in our bodies.
It's not since the government wants just to be mean bitch, but it's since releasing all drugs to the open market would make the society quite shit.
If it were up to me I'd ban alcohol for the huge social problems it creates. And tobacco while we are at it.
And release weed so everybody would be too lazy to bitch about it.
I think all drugs should be legal. It isn't the government's job to control what we put in our bodies.
Yes it is. That's what the FDA is for.
I think all drugs should be legal. It isn't the government's job to control what we put in our bodies.
While I do agree with you, it's also the government's job to protect people. And when people are high, they do stupid shit which endangers their or others lives.
And when people are high, they do stupid shit which endangers their or others lives.
Like eat a whole bowl of cheetos or steal a basket of donuts from 7/11
Like eat a whole bowl of cheetos or steal a basket of donuts from 7/11
Or like jumping off a building or driving.
I think all drugs should be legal. It isn't the government's job to control what we put in our bodies.
Damn straight.
I think all drugs should be legal. It isn't the government's job to control what we put in our bodies.
I wonder how people can be so ignorant that they think that things would roll if all drugs were allowed ect. You know everything would fuck up. Addicts would be a threat for "normal" people. Many would probably stop working, there wouldn't be a stable society even if 5% of low class workers would quit doing their job.
People need to be protected from themselves.
Or like jumping off a building or driving.
ITT: Someone who has never been high.
While I do agree with you, it's also the government's job to protect people. And when people are high, they do stupid shit which endangers their or others lives.
High on cocaine, maybe.
Worst I've done after smoking a J was go skinny dipping in a lake at 1am.
ITT: Someone who has never been high.
And that's a bad thing?
Yes it is.
No it's not lol
While I do agree with you, it's also the government's job to protect people. And when people are high, they do stupid shit which endangers their or others lives.
Which is precisely the case with alcohol, not with most illegal drugs.
Yes it is. That's what the FDA is for.
My point was that they shouldn't.
It's not since the government wants just to be mean bitch, but it's since releasing all drugs to the open market would make the society quite shit.
Not necessarily. I doubt people would do hard drugs all of a sudden because they're legal.
If drugs were legal then shops would open up, selling the once illegal drugs, making it that much easier for kids to aquire them.
Nope, kids have easier access to illegal drugs because of dealers. It's hard for a kid to get alcohol today becase they need someone to buy it for them.
And that's a bad thing?
I think everyone with a stable mind should try weed at least once. Altered states of consciousness can be useful.
If drugs were legal then shops would open up, selling the once illegal drugs, making it that much easier for kids to aquire them.
Funny how media brings up once every year how someone dies on a not-yet-legal drug, while thousands die every day on alcohol and tobacco.
If drugs were legal then shops would open up, selling the once illegal drugs, making it that much easier for kids to aquire them.
newsflash moron
it's easier for kids to buy coke and pills than it is to buy cigs and alcohol
Yes it is. That's what the FDA is for.
Ummmm lol
They might make it their job, but that doesn't mean it should be.
Not necessarily. I doubt people would do hard drugs all of a sudden because they're legal.
Erm yes, many would. You know how stupid people are.
High on cocaine, maybe.

We'rent talking about just joints. I wouldn't mind if weed would be legalized.
newsflash moron
it's easier for kids to buy coke and pills than it is to buy cigs and alcohol
It would be easier.
It would be easier.
ummmm no it wouldn't
as it is right now, a kid can pretty easily find a drug dealer and buy whatever they want no questions asked as long as they have the money
if said drugs were legal and regulated, the kid would have to go into a shop that's licensed to sell them, which the shop keep would not do because it would be against the law to sell the drugs to minors
ummmm no it wouldn't

The drug dealer get the drugs from the drug shop and sells them to kids, or the parents buy them and the kid finds them.

Like how shit got all fucked up in Portugal and Mexico after they legalised small amounts of all drugs?
People need to be protected from themselves.
And what a life that would be.

You need money to support an addiction. And you don't see prescription painkiller addicts become aggressive.
I think all drugs should be legal. It isn't the government's job to control what we put in our bodies.
Some drugs can make you hurt others.
The drug dealer get the drugs from the drug shop and sells them to kids, or the parents buy them and the kid finds them.
What? Why? The price the dealer would be selling them at would be way more than the drug would be worth anyway. Kids don't buy alcohol or tobacco from dealers on the street, even though they can't get them from a shop.
And uhhh, your second point is completely irrelevant. The same thing can be said about virtually anything, legal or not.
You need money to support an addiction.
Or a clothing hanger / hammer.
