Red Star OS is the country's "home-grown" software that is installed on computers found mostly in libraries and schools. It previously had a look that closely mimicked Microsoft's Windows system. Screenshots were obtained by American computer scientist Will Scott and published on the NorthKoreaTech blog. Despite living in a country very much shut off from the outside world, many people in North Korea do have access to technology - including mobile phones.

The Linux-based Red Star OS is peppered with North Korean propaganda, and its calendar tells users it is not 2014, but 103 - the number of years since the birth of former North Korean leader Kim Il-sung.
Source: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-26047439

Forgot to add source. Added.
I'm willing to bet that thing's stuffed to the gills with backdoors.
It installs brainwashing programs to love and obey glorious leader. RAYHALO was a beta tester.
See? Even North Korea is free and open source
Can't decide whether to use North Korea or Best Korea? Just use Borth Korea!
Well I won't lie, it is aesthetically pleasing. But that's only because they completely copied OS X 10.4ish, so they get no points for it.
it's like a square os x
does it support steam
Almost tempted to install it on a virtual machine, see what fun we can have. I don't know Korean though.
Was expecting something that would look like windows 95 for some reason.
Was expecting something that would look like windows 95 for some reason.
Yeah, I thought 95' was a bit past their current level of tech
Was expecting something that would look like windows 95 for some reason.
China already did that. I guess North Korea was trying to think different.
Wasn't Red Star the name of the tech from the "new" Charlie Angels movie?
Looks surprisingly appealing visually, even though its looks are clearly based off of OSx. I kinda expected something completely text based.
its calendar tells users it is not 2014, but 103 - the number of years since the birth of former North Korean leader Kim Il-sung.
aw man when the bamboo wall comes down, those people will be shocked
Looks surprisingly appealing visually, even though its looks are clearly exactly the same as OSx. I kinda expected something completely text based.
fixed that
