Christian Bale has dropped out of Michael Mann’s “Enzo Ferrari” movie over health concerns, Variety has learned.
Sources say the reason for his exit is tied to health concerns over the weight gain required to play the role of the iconic car maker. Bale began the weight gain process for Ferrari he felt necessary, but couldn’t safely be ready in time for Spring, 2016.
Mann will now work quickly to tap a new actor to play the role as production is set to start later this spring.
Vendian Entertainment and YooZoo Bliss Film Fund are financing the project, which plans to shoot this summer in Italy. YooZoo Pictures will distribute “Enzo Ferrari” in China.
“Enzo Ferrari” — set in 1957 — tells the personal, intimate story of a passionate man and his sprawling world, at times hilarious and at the next moment devastating, as he faces a brutal challenge to his survival.
Looks like that era of his career is over. He needs to look out, I remember doctors warning him before shooting American Hustle that it's going to be dangerous. Absolute mad man.
Jesus christ I never knew he gained and lost that much so quickly for each role.
That's some true dedication

That's crazy though, maybe not from a body building standpoint but to have that much dedication. I love Christian Bale

Just saw him to day on The Big Short, fit as fuck. The man is a BEAST.
From what I've heard he's just THAT committed to his roles for movies. Not too surprising that he finally ran into a role's weight target that he couldn't make in time... safely anyways.
Who even is Christian Bale's personal trainer, Bale is a legend for going through with it but I don't think there's any better personal trainer in the world than his.
At least he didn't go full Marlon Brando... glad his health is being strictly monitored.
