Anyone here likes the stargate series? Maybe it sg-1, atlantis, or universe?
im about to start watching all the stargates soon, should be fun ( used to watch sg1 for a while when it was first shown but not since then), doing that after i have watched startrek though
I love Stargate, but I like all the characters from the original more. Plus they're all shot here in Vancouver so it's very close to home.
Stargate, SG-1 and Atlantis I love (the last I was rather reluctant about) but I can't stand Universe, especially since every episode in the first season goes like this "Everything is fine, Disaster, we're doomed! *insert badly planned/formed/executed plan to save themselves which fails horribly* We're doomed! *insert ship being able to work out exactly what is going on and do stuff to fix it* We're saved!"
SG-1 and Atlantis was really top notch, although the first season of SGA was like Terrishit acting to be honest.

I'm actually watching Urgo right now because it's one of the funniest episodes of SG-1.
I loved SG-1 and stuck for for the first few seasons of Atlantis, but then, just stopped. Atlantis was good, but it was no replacement for SG-1
There was no reason for SG-1 or SGA to stop, Syfy is a bunch of dicks.
Stargate quality goes in series order.
SG-1: Best
Atlantis: Good
Universe: Meh
Stargate is epic, except for universe. Universe makes me wanna puke.
Stargate Atlantis: The best.
Stargate SG1: Very good.
Stargate Universe: :barf:
I actually like how they were able to incorporate SGA and SG-1 hand in hand. Even having cross-over episodes. David Hewlett also played Dr. McKay very early in SG-1, where him and carter had this little "thing" going on.
You get used to McKay's whining too. Any of the episodes with Jeanie McKay (Hewletts real life sister too) are pretty awesome.
I also like the bonding moments between McKay and Sheppard are awesome too.
Sheppard also does great to liven up things without ending up overly comical.
Start of EP2 of S1 is a good example, so is the one where:
"Have you seen a nuke go off"
"I have...not up close"
The delivery on that is great.
I got into Stargate late and seen Stargate Atlantis the most. But I still like what I seen of SG-1. I don't mind Universe, but it feels like a different series.
While we're on the subject of David Hewlett, anyone who's liked the stargate series should go see his movie A Dog's Breakfast. He wrote and directed it, and has tons of cameos of other Stargate cast.
200 gets listed as the most awesome SG-1 episode purely for the amount of piss taking it does. Plus it also references Firefly.
I actually think McKay carried the whole Stargate series, and once Jason Momoa was added it sort of got that extra boost it needed. However when they decided to kill of Weir and Beckett, that's a whole nother story.

Window of Opportunity is a close runner up.

Haha hell yeah.

Yeah but they replaced him with Jewel Staite so I forgive them.

Rodney McKay. :h:
I might re-watch Atlantis a third time now you have brought it up. I watched SG1 last (and Universe when the eps released) so it is Atlantis' turn again.
My one complaint about SGA is how many times the god damn Jenai make an appearance.

She's better in Firefly, I can never look at a strawberry the same way again.
I post it in every Stargate thread but I met the guy who plays Shepard. He's cool. I dislike SGU and miss SG1. It's not even Stargate. They barley use the fucking things.

They change their ways towards the later episodes of the series. Eventually becoming complete allies with Atlantis. I believe this was Season Three.
My main problem with Universe was that while it was a completely different style when compared to the other shows, it had too much crossover with the old characters and technology. Like the communication stones letting them talk to earth whenever they wanted to. It really deflated the sense of danger and desperation they were all in.
And I'm sorry, but Jack O'neill being the head of the SGC was a bad idea. Richard Dean Anderson essentially plays him the same way he always has. Maybe a bit gruffer, but there's still that quirky personality that I loved in SG1. That frankly didn't fit at all with the way Universe was made.
My personal opinion? They should have set Universe sometime in the future. 50ish years should have been enough. They should NOT have had communication stones. They should have been completely cut off, until they figured out how to use Destiny's computer well enough to send some message to earth.
Props to not making the fat geek be a major whiner though.

Yeah I remember at some point they become allies but it doesn't stop me finding them completely annoying. :smith:
Window of Opportunity, best Stargate episode ever.
Though I realised I totally spelt "Genii" wrong.

The whiny part isn't the script writer's fault. If you look at all the McKay interviews, that is how he actually acts, and that is how he is in real life.
Ba'al is also the best Stargate bad guy, ever.
I've been running an SGA stream but people complain of extreme lag, I'm gonna go ahead and guess it's because of the massive file size trying to be streamed :/

They brought him back in Season 4 and 5 which I was greatful for though :P
Sg-1 was awesome, Atlantis was cool for killing time, Universe is nice too, but way too serious, I liked how sg-1 used to be goofy and stuff.
