Mayor Predicts “Waco-Style Standoff” In Response to Obama Gun Confiscation
As New York gun owners digest the new regulations under the New York SAFE Act, the Gloversville mayor says he has his own concerns.
Although the law is meant to reduce gun violence, Mayor Dayton King thinks it will have the opposite effect.
"Most people are law-abiding citizens and may go ahead and sell those or turn those over, but you're going to have a fraction of people that are going to take a stand, and I can just predict a Waco-style standoff in some rural area and it's not going to end well," said Mayor King.
The mayor also said he's concerned about how the new law will be enforced.
There is a video on the page, which is critical to watch instead of just reading the article.

This is what I'd be afraid of too. We know there are a lot of people out there who see this as a direct threat to their lives and rights, and will not bow to any law enforcers who try to impede on those. This is also the reason a total gun ban or any sort of forced mass confiscation would be a complete disaster.
Yeah. Trying to take the guns from the people who have always been paranoid that the government wanted to take their guns isn't gonna be fun for anybody involved
They're actually confiscating guns? Holy shit, good on 'em.

"They're actually stealing property from citizens? Holy shit good on 'em."
What you just said was stupid.

Everyone I've talked to (both on Facepunch and IRL) scoffs at the idea of a civil war over gun rights, but there's enough people who fit the type you mentioned for something like that, even small-scale, to be inevitable.

sure you would be saying the same thing if they came to take your computer, right?
Yeah, I won't be registering mine, or giving them up.

Excuse me good citizen.
Studies have shown that the internet has been a big highway of child pornography. In order to protect our children, we have issued a step by step program to fight this growing threat to our children's safety.
First, we will have to take your computer away from you. Regardless if you have done anything illegal with it or not. You will be forced to buy newly regulated computers that help fight child pornography.
We expect your full cooperation, citizen.

That would be more like taking away cars because people can use them to get to murder scenes.
Hey, another shitstorm gun debate thread in the brewing.
I'm surprised that they're actually doing this
Jesus FUCKING Christ
I hope that if they did this where I live that my dad will participate in such a standoff, however this seems highly unlikely D:
It just isn't worth the hassle
I refuse to shoot any anuthority that comes to cease my firearms. For those who will resist this, do not be violent, do not respond.
I'm simply not going to turn it in. Simple.
You should change your handle to gun ghandi.

I doubt there would be many police officers that would actively try and enforce it and get warrants to search homes for firearms. Even if they did I doubt there would be a whole lot of people that would threaten to kill the cops over it. If I were them, I'd have already buried my rifles in PVC tubing out in the woods.

"I sold mine using the gun-show loophole"
^^^ that's how I'd do it
Will the price of the guns be compensated somehow? Guns are freaking expensive, and I sure as fuck wouldn't just give up something that costs that much for a cause I don't even agree with
"I'm sorry officer, I've lost all of my firearms in a terrible boating accident last summer."

doubtful, at LA gun trade ins they'll give you a 100 dollar gift card to applebees or a gas card.

If it's time to hide them, it's really time to use them.
This gun control debate is driving people crazy, literally.
This gun control debate is driving people crazy, literally.
What I find crazy is that the 'paranoid gun nuts' were right
Yeah any NY gun owners of FP don't comply with registration they can go fuck themselves.
I'm normally on the anti-gun side of the debate but I feel banning and confiscating guns would cause more bad than good
No one no where will take my guns. Ever.
Think of this as a test. If police go along with this, then the result will be good for us and future generations to look back at.
I understand that owning a gun is someones right, but to be honest not having a gun isn't the end of the world. There is more to life then owning a gun. There are a ton of things I'd rather buy over a gun.
It's a right in the US to be able to own a firearm. Just because you'd rather buy a new graphics card instead of a new handgun, doesn't mean everyone else would too.
