I'm gonna go with humanly impossible hit an arrow without a signal and with true velocity.
This forum needs more Skallagrim. His content is really good.
I know something similar to this: when they filmed Fellowship of the Ring the scene you see Aragorn fight Lúrtz he manages to deflect a (real) knife thrown at him by the Uruk-hai accidentally, this would have possibly killed Viggo if he hadn't deflected the throw. Originally Lúrtz actor was to have pulled the knife, throwing it intentionally past Aragorn so they could digitally render the shot to narrowly miss - hitting a tree instead for effect. Due to the prosthetics impairing vision, Lúrtz launched the blade right at him by mistake: 3:45 Peter Jackson and the rest thought the shot was so impressive they kept it in.

Reminds me of the shot where he made a completely convincing yell because he actually broke his foot while filming.

Probably a huge factor in why he was able to deflect that knife.

True it's heavier than a butter knife, but people throw in the "oh he could have died" to make the story seem cooler. It's cool enough as is.

You'd think they would have first filmed Viggo reacting in position, then filmed the dagger being thrown, to be comp'd in later. So that, you know, there'd be no danger in the first place? Not to mention the shot is framed to be centered on the action of his sword knocking the dagger away. There's no tree behind Viggo for the dagger to hit.
I think it could be done somewhat reliably with enough practice and skill, although really why you would deflect it rather than dodge it instead is a mystery. (Given that the swordsman saw it bring drawn and all) [editline]12th September 2016[/editline]
There's also zero evidence of it even happening.
