Some of you may know that I'm on the works on this film for quite a few time.
I also directed, the original film D.308.
Thread----»http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1011505-D.308-Post-Apocalyptic-Short-Film?highlight=
Since some of you enjoyed the first film, I decided to post this here.
Production started about two weeks ago, and I released today this announcement teaser:

I will not post any more info on this, at least just for now, since it's still very early into the production. But I will update this thread, everytime there is news, a new video or plot info.
Thanks for watching.
Update 1
Production is in a calm state for now, not much being done wile I finish up a few touches on the screenplay.
In order for this to not be a poor update, I went with two of the actors into some of the locations already chosen for a few scenes, and I took a few photographs:

And did a small effects testshot with one of the photographs:

A bit of stylistic effects like what k00lwhip stated. but a bit better implemented to the video
Vimeo resized this for some reason...
Well more info to come latter. Thanks for watching.
BTW, D.310 already has a Facebook page - http://www.facebook.com/pages/D310/100247233384817?v=wall
Update 2
Now with the third re-write of the script happening has I type this, new Ideas have come to my mind about the actual state of the world in this post-apocalyptic history.
I would show (or not) how the world came to be that way. How the world is now and what is happening to it, and also what would happen in the future, besides the actual story of the main character that is.
The problem is that if I want to move foward with these new ideas, the production time will increase exponentially. Because it will take me even deeper in the visual effects region, and video editing. Due to the !EPIC! porpotions of these Ideas.
I will make a new video In the next few weeks, trying to show these Ideas, and what I mean by !EPIC!
Update 3
Well it's been a long time since I updated this thread.
Work on this film is still progressing very slowly. I have been watching video co-pilot videos like crazy to learn how I can do some special effects. But In the last few months, I did not have much time to work on this project, and when I do, I spend most of my time researching some locations I would like to film in, and rewriting the script to accommodate these new settings.
A really quick synopsis:
The story will be about a pregnant girl, trying to survive in the post apocalyptic world, cought in the conflict between two unknown armies, and the decision if she would keep the baby or not. A few fight scenes in the middle, yada yada...
I'm making this update, to ask you people what you think about this synopsis.
And also tell you that I might contact the portuguese army, in order try and ask if I can film in some "cemeteries" for abandoned military equipment. It's going to be hard but I'll wait and see what the Army Chief of Staff say.
Stay tunned for more in the next few weeks.
Did you end up getting the XM1 or the 550D this time around ?
You need to work on the effects like those explosions. Effects aren't everything, but having bad effects will detract attention from the viewer. Mainly the explosions need to blend in better. Besides that, looking forward to it!
snip because i changed my mind.
Did you end up getting the XM1 or the 550D this time around ?
Still working (geting the money) to get the 550D. But I would love to get the XM1 instead of the 550D.
Right now im just using the old camera to try and get a few test shots done and story board some of the scenes.

I missed the final step in adding those effects, I should have added a few lightining effects on the explosions, like lightning a small area of the ground around the explosion. But this "test" video was mainly to see if I could track the shaky camera movement with spins around the subject. But turns out movement tracking can be a bitch all togheder...
I thought this at first. But for some very odd reason I like it the way it is. It adds a stylistic dimension achieved only by effects like this with the film grain and etc.
But it probably still be better to make those effects better .
I Never thought about that... hmm... I have to consider this point.
But still I'll work on the effects, to compare the results.
Update 1 has been released. Check OP for some photos and a small test shot.
Looks pretty interesting. As has already been mentioned, your explosion effects need some work (they stand out too much), and the breath in your test shot looks a bit off. The breath would be on the other side of the rifle, unless her whole face is scrunched to the side so she can breath on the side the camera's on!
protip: neutral density filters

Yhea I agree with you, I'm still learning how to make the effects look better... it's has been a lot to learn, so I decided to make small test videos like the ones above to get some experience.
About the breath... I figured that since she is using a gas mask, the breath would come out all in a slow "scrambled" mist from going through the mask extractor. We tried it out with some cigarret smoke and it was confirmed. It's not quite like what I did in the video the breath would come out from under and above the weapon. I tried to make it look like only from above. But looks like I failled miserably... :(

Thanks for the tip!
The feedback from all you guys has been great, and always pointing me in the right direction! Big "thank you to the Facepunch community" in the end credits when this film get's done! :D

Ah, forgot she was wearing a mask! In that case I might suggest just toning down the effect a little bit. Like the explosions, it stands out too much. I don't know anything about video editing, so forgive me if this is a stupid question, but is there an opacity meter you can dial down for that breath?
[editline]5th February 2011[/editline]
Actually, what am I even fussing about? It's just a cool animated poster! No need to nitpick over the poster when you've got an entire movie to edit!

Yhea there is an opacity meter, but since the effect is in alpha, the opacity tool is way too sensible. It's all like: now you see the effect, now you dont. Because of that Im allways afraid that people wont be able to see the effect If I change the opacity too much.
basically if you use an ND filter you can keep the skies in the shot along with your people without massive overexposing
basically if you use an ND filter you can keep the skies in the shot along with your people without massive overexposing
Hmm. It's a bit like the polarizing filter.
Is it also expensive like the polarizing filter? Because my wallet is geting a lot less heavy with this project. lol

The goal with effects is not to have people see them, but to NOT see them. Sounds weird but when people don't see your effects, it's usually because you made them so good that they are very believeable and thus don't stand out. Over-doing effects will make them stand out and drop the believeability of your film.

I'm not too sure. Some cameras have them built in

I think if I play around with some blur effect on those explosions and change the lightning a bit, I can still maintain a good level of visibility... I'm a bit afraid of changing the opacity more than what I already did, the alpha channel on those effects is a bit "sensitive" to opacity changes.
I'm not too sure. Some cameras have them built in
Need to check it out... And I need to see if I will really need one.
Update 2 It's merely informative.

Tip: When there's an explosion most people do not instinctively look at it, the first put their hands up, close eyes etc... so there should be more shock, ie make the people more human. also effects, but im just nitpicking so good job and best of luck :buddy:

Thanks man, You mean the reaction on the A-bomb at the end right? Good point, I did not thought about that, mainly because I created this character used to explosions, thats why she is so calm in the battlefield. But you are right, the reaction in the ending should be different.
Wouldn't the character be blinded by the nuke?
Wouldn't the character be blinded by the nuke?
No, because its quite far away and/or a very weak nuke. Also tinted gas mask FTW

First flash is the one that may blind you.

God, it would be so cool if I had the budget to do these explosions...
The explosions in the first one really bother me and the darks are SO dark. Maybe email me and we can talk about doing effects a bit better and maybe some better color correction?

I'm still learning on how to make the effects better it's being a long process... But will do on the contact latter. I really need to go sleep now...
Bumping for a small informative update:
Yes this project is not yet dead! :D
