Disable it then ffs [sp]oh shit, ending is gold. i clicked off at like 1 minute in tbh[/sp]
I can already predict this thread. A thread full of people not watching the whole video. ... btw that guy sounds almost like he voiced a character in Cromartie High
That ending though lmfao.
That's Windows 8
Good thing I use the OS that is blessed by the holy spirit of Steve Jobs.
Does windows 10 really do that though? If yes, i'll probably just install the long term support version and fuck shit up inside windows update on purpose :v:
It might be just me, but I haven't had a single update popup since I installed Win10.
this only happens if you keep your computer on 24/7. if you give it the chance, windows does its update stuff at shutdown.
Why not post the original
this only happens if you keep your computer on 24/7. if you give it the chance, windows does its update stuff at shutdown.
It affects me, because I generally find it easier to put my PC on hibernate rather than shutdown, but even then it's relatively infrequent not to mention important.
Run "shutdown /a" in the command prompt and it will stop the auto restart process. For machines that do tasks longer then 24 hours, it's wise to turn off automatic updates, and manually run them when you can.
I kept automatic updates running, but disabled auto-restart. The only problem is that if I open the Windows Update settings then it will queue a restart, but I'm okay with that since I never check those setting anyway.
Why not post the original
wasn't aware the version I posted wasn't the original, edited with this one
lmfao that ending
I finally fucking lost it completely at the [sp]I am a racist part[/sp].
jesus christ that ending was unexpected
jesus christ that ending was unexpected
A friend of mine posted this elsewhere ages ago, still love it Their comment was "This started at a one or a two, but it totally ended at a 10"
gpedit.msc god help you if you don't own pro edition
It will only restart your PC if the update has been delayed for more then 72 hours. What do you guys do, that requires your PC to be on non-stop for 72 hours?
That ending. I don't get why you wouldn't want to install updates though. True, sometimes you might get some updates that fuck shit up, but your OS is more likely to get fucked up if you don't update at all. It does suck that it can pop up whenever you're doing something important though. Maybe Microsoft should make it only prompt to restart whenever your PC is idle? That way, it can't prompt you to restart when you're playing a game or in the middle of a voice chat.
You can disable the update service through msconfig, it's no biggie. Then start it when you want to update, and switch it back off. They are often and aggressive in Win10 though, that's no lie
Does it require the retail version for that to happen? Once delayed for weeks on the insider version till it sort of broke Windows (and updating magically fixed it).
It depends on the update types, i think critical updates, and security critical updates require to be installed within 72 hours. Sometimes you can go a few weeks without microsofts pushing either, but its rare. You also have super critical security updates, or w/e its officially called, which requires to be installed within less then 72 hours, but its really a defcon thing, and i don't think its been used more then a few times.

The assumption is that your PC will be restarted at least once during that time period. For example, I shut down my PC every night. I have never seen this prompt ever, as updates are taken care of during startup/shutdown. In other words, if your PC is on 24 hours, and consider uptime important, disable auto-updates. Which is generally what you do in the case of servers and such anyway.

I wouldn't mind automatic updates but the fact that it restarts your computer is a pain in the ass. I wish Microsoft would do something about that.
I wouldn't mind automatic updates but the fact that it restarts your computer is a pain in the ass. I wish Microsoft would do something about that.
The way Windows is designed is that you can't have it both ways. Some updates will not complete because some files cannot be touched until the system is rebooted. If you reboot your machine regularly, this isn't a big deal. It will wait until then. But if you don't reboot often, it will eventually force one. Reason being is that those patches don't apply until the machine is rebooted. Especially in the case of security, you generally want those patches ASAP, so this is the lesser of the two evils to ensure that the patch will get applied eventually. Basically, if you don't want automatic reboots, turn off automatic updates.
I wouldn't mind automatic updates but the fact that it restarts your computer is a pain in the ass. I wish Microsoft would do something about that.
Just don't leave the computer on 24/7 and you're fine. Let it sleep when you sleep.

I would like to know why a professionally made OS backed by the largest independent software vendor in the world has to reboot to install superfluous updates while it is possible for a Linux distribution to update its kernel without rebooting.
