Prepare to have your mind blown: This weekend, the creator of the popular AdBlock software—which kills the ads you'd normally see
while trawling the Web—launched a crowdfunding campaign to pay for ads encouraging people to use AdBlock and block Internet ads.
As brain-bending as the concept sounds, AdBlock isn't dreaming small. The $25,000 minimum fundraising goal will oh-so-ironically go
toward the creation of banner ads to spam the AdBlock ethos, and AdBlock founder Michael Gundlach promises to spread the word
via a Times Square billboard if the donations hit $50,000, or a full-page ad in the New York Times if the campaign raises $150,000.

And look at all this cool shit you can get

The fact that it's the first thing most people install after they first run Firefox is generally a really good sign that worth of mouth advertising is already working extremely well.
well it's a bit early for this isn't it
Id donate just for a hoodie
I'd donate just for CatBlock
This is why I prefer Adblock Plus
does adblock block adblock ads?
As contradictory as it seems more people need to know about ad-blocking software. I think a lot of casual internet users have never heard of it and end up putting themselves at a massive security risk, not to mention just inconveniencing themselves.
Ad-blocking software is just as important for your security as an anti-virus.

Read the FAQ on their website.

Adblock is Chrome only, Adblock Plus is on both, originally only on Firefox
AdBlock is not to be confused with Adblock Plus. The developer of AdBlock claims to have been inspired by the AdBlock Plus extension for Firefox, but otherwise the two efforts are unrelated.
Indeed, big dutch newssites tend to spread malware every now and then via ads shown on their websites.
Personally I prefer Adblock Plus because that's a big open sourced project whereas AdBlock is just one guy, and Adblock Plus has this:

whereas AdBlock doesn't AFAIK. I don't hate ads, I just hate giant flash ads that try to get drive-by virus downloads on me.

How many ads would an AdBlock block if an AdBlock could block ads?
You ripped a back hole open
we have to know if adblock blocks adblock ads or if adblock adds block ads to adblocked ads so i can add adblock ad block to block adblock ads

Or just use NoScript.
Or just use NoScript.
but that isn't fun to say
Since an Adblock-related thread has finally come about, does anyone else's Adblock Plus not block Youtube ads anymore?

I have 'outages' like that from time to time, not quite sure what causes it. I had gmail ads for a few days before they went away again, and youtube ads until I restarted firefox.
Don't have that issue currently.
If I had to guess, it would be that Google is attempting workaround which then get fixed by the community.

That was my assumption, but I didn't know if it was just me or not.

That's not the only way these things can happen. I use NoScript on top.

Adblock Plus has a paid whitelist where advertisers can come and pay to not be blocked. Google is one of them.

I've been using AdMuncher for several years now, which is a paid variation and comes with updated block lists very regularly as well as a bunch of advanced options.
Not sure how it compares to the others.
(it blocks all browsers and also any application you add to it including skype or MSN)

Well fuck.
What kind of sites do you guys go to where ads will download viruses by just looking at them?
All of the ads I usually see are either totally legit or will only fuck you over if you actually follow the link and fill out whatever phishing form they have

That's pretty much highway robbery on ABP's part.
